47854 on the NENTA tour that I was on caught fire at MP 111.75. 47804 assisted from rear into Westbury then shunted 47854 off the train at Westbury. By Reading 47804 was low on fuel, so 47245 was added to the front of the train. By the time we got to Ely the line to Norwich was closed for engineering works so tour passangers were bundled onto buses for the last leg of the journey to Norwich

Eleven years ago today I was complaining about how it cost nearly £6 to travel from Mauldeth Road to Wilmslow peak but less than £3 off peak. This might have been with 16-25 Railcard that I renewed before my 26th. I was off to spend a year in Germany not long after this, where I paid something like €60 for a month's travel around München (valid after 09:00 only, however I only worked after 09:45 if I remember correctly so this was ok).
