* 86439 - bang bang bang, what was that, suddenly the catenary was bouncing along the side and top of the coach, the wires had come down! It wasnt too long before a tasty looking grey 47 back on, at Bank Quay we got off to get the number - 47594!! As the wires were down we made our way to Man Pic, luckily 47012 (on its last passenger working) stopped on the through platforms and we boarded even though the guard wasnt happy about it! When we got to Crewe 31174/113 were in the centre roads on a Glasgow service, we saw the guard and he said it was ok to ballast leap on - so we did!

The first time it happened to me - about 1975/76, with a Deltic on the front heading Northbound - I had station pilot 08 540 for the drag back. (Also see upthread....somewhere!)
