Another Merrymaker, which started from Ealing Broadway but on the return took a different route and terminated at Oxford, IIRC quite late on for a Saturday. I was part of an InterCity Railway Society Group who had organised a coach tour of Glasgow area depots, the ones I remember visiting are Hamilton, Motherwell, Eastfield and Glasgow Works. Not sure if we went to Polmadie, and definitely didn't do Shields or Corkerhill. But still a great day!

Another slight retrospective that has just come to light;

TUESDAY 20th NOVEMBER 1984:

56 051 Haywards Heath-Fratton Yard

I was working a rest day as guard on the Ardingly-Westbury stone empties, which had been heavily delayed in unloading due to a conveyor belt failure at the Ardingly terminal, relieving a Three Bridges guard at HH. The original plan was to be relieved by a Westbury crew at Fareham, but the Westbury driver had declined to wait, so he and his guard went pass back to Westbury....and we shut the train down in Fratton Yard to be collected the following day by another Westbury crew.

Does riding in the rear cab of a loco count as haulage? It does in my book!

I think you need a different colour pen for that sort of thing.

The nearest I have got to exotic haulage as a result of my job is a helicopter move to a North Sea gas platform. Fortunately I had it again to get back to the shore!
