When there is engineering work at the southern end of the GEML the usual arrangement for rail replacement buses is Ingatestone to Newbury Park on the Central Line because it is a simple journey on the A12 and Ingatestone has a big car park with space for the buses. Lots of rail replacement buses at Shenfield would be a nightmare.
Thanks. That makes perfect sense.

Fair enough....but why? I don't recall there ever having been an Ingatestone-Norwich timetabled service!

It’s done whenever there’s an all line block between Shenfield and London. Ingatestone is much better for the bus transfer.

I lived in Rugby and worked in Euston at this time, so you might be able to guess my regular commuting trains were 0620 Rugby - Euston via Northampton and 1650 Euston - Birmingham (as far as Rugby).
That day I had 90034 in the morning, but wasn't on it in the evening for some reason.

As others have said, it has been that way for several years. Large car park at Ingatestone for the buses and step-free access to both platforms via the level crossing. Also a decent sized car park at Newbury Park.

After a session of Southern Region EMU bashing I made my way to Euston for -

90028 1722 Euston - Watford Jn

This was the 1722 Euston - Northampton, fast to Leighton Buzzard. However it came to a stand just beyond Watford at 1739 with announcement of 'air problem'. At 1751 reversed into the station. At 1810 was declared a failure and terminated. At 1853 departed ECS to Wembley behind 57309. Another failure with this 90 to follow in a few weeks.

Altered workings were still in force in connection with the Brighton remodelling and resignalling scheme being in full swing.

I only had it twice. This was the day I scored it. I then had it from Oxford to Paddington in September 1989 when I was fleeing the country for a year.
As well as having 35 many times for haulage it was the first Hoover I saw. Looking out of our front window one dinnertime, there it was passing Bensham on the Doncaster Works test train. Large logo livery meant that with binoculars I could read the number. I sighted 50040 and 50045 in the same manner.

A trip to Swindon Works. Almost 150 withdrawn locos of classes 08, 25, 40, 45 and 46 dumped in the North sidings, and around the Works and Scrapyard. The only overhauls being undertaken in A Shop were to a dozen Class 08s and King 6000.

Travelled on the “Border Venturer“ railtour to Carlisle with 92220 Evening Star working northbound over Ais Gill. Our train ran in conjunction with another charter, the “Western Border Venturer“ on which 92220 worked back to Leeds.

45032 Derby-Leeds
92220 Leeds-Carlisle
47474 Carlisle-Leeds
45032?? Leeds-Derby (failed to log the loco, but most likely 45032 again)

The well known railway photographer Eric Treacy died at Appleby station on this day, while waiting to photograph 92220.

My antipenultimate entry of my moves on this thread.

40008 Wigan NW to WBQ - I don't know what service this was on. Neither the motherlist nor RailGen can help. An unusual place for a midweek 40 working.
40029 Colwyn Bay to WBQ, 1J31 19.25 Bangor to Man Vic. That is a bit more familiar, lol.

As far as I can remember this was the last day of Class 31 hauled services on the Liverpool to Sheffield route, so I set out to do some. Obviously again have gone for quantity, the bonus being having the "Roarer" twice. There must have been a reason for doing the 'duff' back from Stockport on the first run
