Don't forget "Gerald" as well in Holyhead overnight!

What has happened when Gerald fails and a 175 replaces it - does one of the subsequent trains get cancelled between Holyhead and Chester or does a maintenance set go across ecs to replace it?
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
To be clear about the South Wales 158 links - does the set that does the 16:18 Cardiff-Maesteg (having earlier done Shrewsbury-Maesteg-Cheltenham-Cardiff-Ebbw Vale-Cardiff-Canton) then continue to Cheltenham, back to Maesteg and onto Gloucester before returning ecs to Canton?

Correct re 158 working. I don't know where the 175 comes from if Gerald fails but there is no diagrammed standby there. Perhaps they step up and scramble a 175 from Chester to cover the later service.

I suspect that's what happens alright.

Thanks for the clarification - I have to say it's always an enjoyable challenge trying to figure out set diagrams, which RTT makes much easier than it ever was before.

Thank you all for the info.

So does anything (ATW) get kept overnight at Crewe?

I guess at Carmarthen there is a 1 x 158 and 1 x 150 overnight (plus a 150 working the overnight fisguard and then first HOW) but how many 175s are kept at Carmarthen?

The 158 that does the Saturday 0630 Manchester-Milford, where does that come from to be in Manchester at 6.30am to form this service?

Havent been on earlies to confirm its still the same, but it should be 2 x 150, 1 x 153 and 2 x 158 should be at Crewe overnight, plus the north Wales loco and stock.

One 150 and 158 come in together from north wales, and go ecs to Chester just after 3am. Sometimes those units go down the coast, and sometimes they split and the 158 does the early chester-birmingham via Stafford.

The other 150 comes off the 21:55 cardiff-crewe. The 153 is the unit that does shrewsbury-crewe locals all day, finishing with the 1825 shrewsbury-crewe. The 158 is the aforementioned 2017 Cardiff-Manchester, which comes back to Crewe ecs. These 3 units run ecs at about 04:25 to Shrewsbury where they split. The 153 does the first heart of Wales, the 158 the first Chester, and I'm not sure about the 150, but I assume it goes up to Wrexham and then does wrexham-bidston?

There is a 175 at Crewe on a Sunday evening I believe, but otherwise they stable at Chester, with several sets going to Crewe first thing in the morning mostly as ecs.

The 0630 Manchester-Milford Haven comes empty stock from Crewe on a Saturday. On a weekday its a 175 ecs from Chester via Crewe.

There is one 158 in Carmarthen but the 150 for HOWL is based in Swansea - it operates the boat train to Fishguard before doing the first service on HOWL.

I make it that there are six other sets in Carmarthen overnight.

I'm going to be very pedantic and say it isn't really based in Swansea when it arrives at 0348 and leaves again at 0431 :)

It appears Chester covers for both loco hauled sets if one fails,I have known the 0805 from Holyhead start at Chester when Gerald has failed.

The 19 20 ex Maesteg is a 150

Stabled at Holyhead overnight are:-
1 x 158 1H81 05 14 Holyhead to Manchester Picc (another 158 attaches at
(Chester
2 x 175/0 1V92 06 28 Holyhead to Cardiff
1K31 07 15 Holyhead to Crewe
2 x 175/1 1V90 04 25 Holyhead to Cardiff
1V94 08 05 Holyhead to Cardiff

There is a 175 stabled overnight at Llandudno Jn on Saturdays off 19 34 ex Cardiff and stables the Bay Platform (2). This is because it can't go anywhere else at that time due lines closed. Attaches to 08 45 Holyhead to Crewe Sunday morning.

If anybody has more accurate and factual info than this, I stand to be corrected.

1V90 is booked a single 175/1

I read it as 1x175/1 for 1V90, and 1x175/1 for 1V94.

Correct. My typing

That's interesting. the last time I came back from Fishguard it was 2x150's that arrived at the harbour. Would that have been attached on the way down?

On the way back, we only just fitted the rear door into the platform at Carmarthen, presumably because it was occupied by units staying there overnight. Carmarthen seemed pretty full, to say the least.

Was it a Monday by any chance ? It used to , may still do, come down from Cardiff on a Sunday night.

Sorry Phillpe getting ahead of myself with Pwllheli it will be 2 from the May tt change. The 0514 ex Abr has run as 2 car for last few weeks with two units joining up with it at Salop on 0640 ex Crewe.

Only just realised that the 05 07 Machynlleth to Pwllheli is withdrawn. Nothing into Pwllheli for many morning commuters.

I know town council has objected but I can't see that much demand to arrive in Pwllheli @ 0730 ish! Possible for 2nd unit stabled there to run down to Porthmadog and back and then form 0737 to BHM?

Looking at the platform allocations for the May timetable change, it seems the Crewe portion will revert to a 153 and no longer run into BHM. So, will the 0514 be 2, 4 or 6 cars?

It's in the system as a Class 2 passenger that terminates Salop now, don't suppose they'll be any change!

I wouldn't be so sure about that.

Current trains:
2J44 0640 Crewe - Shrewsbury - platform 4 at Shrewsbury
1G07 0514 Aberystwyth - Birmingham International - platform 4 at Shrewsbury

Future trains:
2J44 0640 Crewe - Shrewsbury - platform 7B at Shrewsbury, forms 5K46
1G07 0530 Aberystwyth - Birmingham International - platform 5 at Shrewsbury

This is how it was before the last timetable change, so maybe the 158 from it has been nicked, or maybe 6 car from Aberystwyth ;)

Open Train times data at this stage is a Timetable which has been offered by Network Rail in response to a TOC bid some time ago. The trains in the system now are still being worked on and some of the data could be historic from a period prior to more recent alterations. Wait for info to be loaded to Real Time Trains to be able to make final judgements. The Salop/Crewe local 153 will not be available at that time from May as it will be on it's way from Llandrindod Wells as a HOWL additional.

Would now assume that Pwllheli's small traincrew complement will be doubling.

They've certainly advertised recently for guards and drivers at Pwllheli, presumably it's to do with this.

There was talk that the depot at Pwllheli was going to expand beyond the current 6 guards, 6 drivers to cope with the new work, which would also see Pwllheli crews learning the route through to Shrewsbury (at the moment they don't go east of Machynlleth).

Thanks, that does make sense.

The 153 used on the City Line is now gone. Been a Pacer all week. At last!!

Are you sure it is permanent?

I'm fairly sure they've been down 2 153s this past week, one I think was at Crewe for a reprint, and the other stopped at Canton on maintenance.
