Was 24 degrees at 2am last night - could not sleep at all! At the moment it's 29 degrees with the fan on high - a little colder than yesterday after the temperature reached 37 degrees in my room with the window shut on Sunday. I thought standing on a Victoria line platform was the hottest place I'd be this weekend!

My wife and I went to Manchester Town Hall today to see the Metrolink exhibition of the proposed second city crossing. The humidity was terrible, but inside the Town Hall was cool, luckily for the TfGM staff running the exhibition. However, it was unbearable back outside, so we took a taxi to Manchester Piccadilly and managed to get a train on the Macclesfield line without much waiting. The weather in Cheshire East is due to become cooler this evening, fortunately.

Quite - it's been miserable in St Andrews/Anstruther/Crail/Kingsbarns all day!

My mother is a senior manager at MHA (Methodist Homes Association). This evening, I drove down to the home so I could pick her up (she doesn't drive) and also so I could see a friend of mine who is currently in the home, though not very well I'm afraid.

To cut to the chase, I couldn't stay for long. The heat in that place was unbearable. Many of the residents are finding it cold! They've got their windows shut, multiple layers of clothing on, the heater on full blast and piles and piles of blankets. I can understand this, as the elderly are prone to feeling cold, though I felt rather sorry for the carers, who were clearly finding it unbelievably difficult to work in such conditions. It's also become very difficult for my neighbour, who's just come out of Charing Cross having had radiation treatment for cancer.

Whilst many of us are finding this weather difficult, it must be a hundred times worse if you're in a serious medical condition.

It is 2015 hours and in this area of Cheshire East, we have just had a very loud clap of thunder, some violent flashes of lightening and an extremely heavy rainstorm.

My wife was watching Nadal play del Potro and felt like she had to turn off the television at one set all and the third set in an interesting situation.

I hate British weather. Edinburgh had the worst snow in living memory 6 months ago - the previous winter, the temperature never got above Freezing Point for a month. Today, it's been hot as hell AND it's been horribly humid.
I hate summer, and its heat. I never get comfortable in it, and I work in a hospital, which has NO air-con, which doesn't help. It's bl**dy awful for the staff, and it's not much better for the patients.
Matters are compounded by the fact that I get Hay bl**dy Fever, which makes me more miserable than I usually am. Happiness is a summer with temperatures no higher than 16C, no wind and no sun. It can rain as hard as it likes, cos it damps down the pollen. At the risk of going slightly off-topic, are there any other poor beggers out there with permanently blocked noses, sneezes that can strip anaglypta or wood-chip off their walls and eyes that stream every time the sun comes out? Do you take anything for it? Does it work. I take Beconase nasal spray twice a day, which helps me a lot.

Maybe we are seeing a weather swap! :p

Hopefully not, reading from the met office 30 day forecast and BBC 30 day forecast, there is evidence to suggest there may be another simmilar heatwave in mid July! Noooo!

It was fantastic :D

Just after I'd bought my car too, which was a definite bonus :D

Surprised you were able to drive it with the amount of snow that fell!

Currently 29.8°C in my attic study. Window is still closed... :)

Couple of links that might be of interest to you weather watchers though:

http://oiswww.eumetsat.org/IPPS/html/MSG/IMAGERY/IR039/BW/WESTERNEUROPE/index.htm

http://www.isleofwightweather.co.uk/live_storm_data.htm

Top one is updated hourly; be aware it shows GMT on the images. Playing the past 24 hours of images is very educational about how the weather behaves.

Second one does exactly what it says on the tin... But scroll down as the top image on it never seems to work; the ones lower down do - very well!

That's been a hell of a storm down the west coast of France. 20 Lightning strikes a minute!

That rate includes the cloud to cloud stuff and it looks pretty typical when you watch the site regularly. They call it "strikes" but it's really more a case of "instances of lightning" whether it strikes anything or not.

Cheshire East is overcast with a most refreshing cool breeze this morning. It was a pity that it was not like this yesterday, when my wife and I went to Manchester Town Hall for the first of the exhibitions on the proposed second city crossing of the Manchester Metrolink system (the humidity yesterday was unbearable).
