I would of thought that 390054 would work any VT pendolino diagram rather than trying to keep it specifically on one route.

Not sure what the significance of it visiting Polmadie every 2nd night is though.

Does that make sense? Why would they use it on any 390 diagram? Effectively they'd still have one extra wouldn't they? Using it on BHM-Scotland means you save a voyager

Yes there is always going to be an additional Pendolino whichever way you look at it, all that is being suggested is that 390054 would operate any of the Pendo diagrams, and that any Pendo can operate the additional Birmingham to Scotland diagram, rather than 54 being dedicated to that particular diagram.

I'm certainly curious to know if they are going to name the unit or not: There are a few "Virgin whatever" names going spare since their removal from other 390s in the past. Although if it remains unnamed then at least it acts as an additional means to identify it from a distance.

Hasn't got Virgin logos on the cabs either at the moment, instead it says ALSTOM PENDOLINO as shown in the pic. Altough I thought it had the word NEW as well before Pendolino.

Well they have done a bit of moving around because 390001, which was Virgin Pioneer, is now being called 101 Squadron, which is what 390045 is called.

But 390045 is staying as 101 Squadron!

That's a good point, the big vinyls at the cab ends had slipped my mind. I'm fairly sure that those vinyls originally read "Alstom New 11-car Pendolino" when it was delivered but that they have since been altered now that it is going to be running around as a nine car unit.

Yeah, on delivery it said 11-car Pendolino. When me and a few other saw it last Friday in 9 car form it just said New Pendolino and now it is as the most recent picture suggests from the Virgin pressroom.

Last Friday it was still lacking its Virgin badge from the front, although they have been designed with it in mind as there is a recess for it!

I'd be tempted to get a MAN to SOT or MAN to CRE VT Only SOR and use FC on it.
