313201 livery

It is to commemorate twenty years of company service I believe.

20 years of company service? Southern have only been around since 2001. 16 years and 4 months isn't exactly anything to commermorate, neither is the Connex franchise that preceded Southern. 20 years since privatisation maybe?

The ROSCO have said that they wanted to celebrate the heritage of the train. Nothing about special dates to commemorate, not least because there aren't any landmark ones around now (they're about a year and a half late for 40 years of service)

Must say, a nice job done on the paint, some might say a turd well polished but genuinely shows how good a finish is possible if done properly.

Pretty much all day every day on Great Northern, not sure about the Southern units though.

Also work Lewes shuttles in 6 car formation for falmer stadium match days, sometimes a pick and mix of units such as 6 car 377s bit usually 6/313 on the 1Lxx Brighton to Lewes calling at falmer only

If the NRM gets a coach, I think it would be great to redo the interior to show some of the ways if changed inside over the years. Divide into three sections based on the doors, then have original seating design and colours, the more modern Silverlink/Wagn/FCC days and then the Southern refurb.

Or course an even better way would be to have all three coaches and one of each!

overheard that the translators were broken, and the backup's were also broken. there was talk of a GN 313 being involved at willesden and dragging back to lovers, but was decided against as the AC circuits had not been tested since decommissioning, and although theoretically they should work it didn't want to be risked. however if the unit was not ready to go by the christmas shutdown it was staying there until next year.

By the looks of it, it was dead hauled by 3121.. would negate the AC issues.

Managed to film 313201 and 313121 passing through Clapham Junction last night. It has to be said, 201 does look the part in the flesh. The blue and grey livery always suited the PEP-derived stock best of all for me, and it's fantastic to see it back.

On 6 car Southern 313s, I've also seen some of the Coastway West 313s in pairs on Goodwood Racecourse event days.

According to the guy who drove it (he’s posted on the southern electric group on FB) it was cut out and dead hauled over the AC part of the journey (obviously) but as soon as it was back on DC it was cut in and off it went.

It was, just what I heard in depot was that GTR wasn’t favourable to this solution, as they were unsure as to how much the ex AC train wires were connected and how they would respond, but obviously it worked!

I for one like the retro liveries on 43002 and 43185. It is a reminder of how the railways have evolved over the years.

That doesn't mean I want the past to return. Parts of BR were very good indeed, however other aspects have changed for the better.

That makes sense on the video I've seen. It shows the unit with lights out and a tail lamp fitted (although the door hazard lights were on) at Harrow and Wealdstone, then most definitely powered up and working in multiple at CLJ. I've attached it below - Video by Moleman978

GTR Southern still has the same brand as it did since 2004... BR rebranded their fleets now and then. Why was it considered fine then, but an absolute disgrace for private industry to do so?

it got silly in east anglia when several fleets all had different liveries, not helped by frequent refranchising and etc.... private companies want their own branding so will pay (out of their budget/tax payers money) to repaint trains ..... it seems the govt has partly got involved with this "light grey" effort some fleets now have.

It makes more sense than ever now to have a standard livery for the country. I think trains running about in funky colours is now old news and we need a corporate identity back.
