the good half of 417 that arrived back at Norwich has just been sat around inside the sheds at Crown Point until the other half comes back from Crewe. Obviously 402 had a fault on one coach which meant it could be in service - so the most sensible thing to do it split 402 and pair the good half of 402 with 417 which is sitting around and there you have a hybrid unit - which means NX are not a unit down. So when the faulty car of 402 is repaired, 417 and 402 will be split, then 402 can be reformed as normal.
Im gathering now 417 will sit around NC and if any other 156 units need splitting then that can be added to make up a 2 car unit so no loss of units.
