I have to say esat coast livery sits very well on a pendo. East coast could do with some fresh stock. not that i'm saying that they didnt do a good job referbing the HSTs

Don't get me wrong I don't want to see the pendo on the east coast - dreadful trains. It is just all the rumours / press releases etc. Me - I would chose the clapped out trains on east coast over the pendos and voyagers any day. I like my trains comfortable.

It's not happening. The period for offers of interest have passed, the only operator who put in a bid for the new 390 is VT, and that'll probs be rejected.

Thanks. Is well discussed on here it never made sense anyway. All that route clearing and driver training for 1 diagram! I know you could argue the Eurostars were the same but they were not needing nearly 400 miles of route clearing for 1 return journey!

390054 back out testing between Speke and Ditton E Jcts tomorrow, Weds and Thurs from 0930 - 1630. Similar arrangement to Friday.

57316 was at Edge Hill.

Also - now confirmed that VT have reached an agreement with DfT to enter 054 into service from May as a 9-car set, which will see the centre cars being taken out then re-inserted as part of the lengthening programme from 2012.

There's the right way, the wrong way, then the railway. Unfortunately in this situation, the latter two are intrinsically linked.

You couldn't make this up could you

DfT were not moving on allowing VRG to operate an 11-car before the franchise changed hands. Accordingly, VRG pointed out that DfT never said that they couldn't enter it into service as a 9-car. The issue is the safety case; DfT don't want it being made out with so little time left on the franchise. DfT reluctantly agreed as they had no way they couldn't; VT are still welcome to the use of 53 9-car sets as per the agreements from years ago.!

It is nonsense... fancy removing two carriages just so the unit can be allowed into service? You cannot make this stuff up...

The lengthening programme gives all sets an H exam; I'd imagine they do something similar to 054 so that it starts over, like all the other sets, with 11 cars.

Testing at the moment in Liverpool area. Will be moving out onto night time runs between Carlisle and Lancaster in the next few weeks.

I haven't read through the entire thread but I thought the set needed to go through acceptance anyway as some of the component are different to the original train so need to be "type approved" So once testing and driver training would need to take place if the train was 9 car or 11.

Nope - bespoke versions. Only components that are different are non-essentials. FWIW, the testing being carried out at the moment has the two new cars completely de-activated and isolated. It has to be commisioned as current operation before it can be accepted in 11-car format. Electronic interference being the primary reason.

Computer didn't want to play ball. Some of the mods Longsight caused problems, as 054 has an updated TMS, and part of the 11-car programme involves a heavy upgrade to the system. Debugging and merging the two systems is part of the planned programme.

Longsight mods included suspension works (was damaged on the journey over) and re-allocating control channels, which caused the problems.

Well it never turned up Friday!

And reports say it is going to Stafford this week!

It did at one point I think - I'll post more timings later for the coming week, full runs down the WCML between Carlisle and Lancaster for TASS calibration and timing purposes are the plan as far as I know. Emergency braking, brake testing and safety system testing were the object of the runs between Crewe and Warrington.
