I would seek out the train guard as soon as possible and make them aware of your worries. These trains are rarely empty even late at night so you will have plenty of other law abiding passengers around you for reassurance.

Happened to me twice now at Woking with a change from platform 4 to 5 for the Portsmouth service just as it's coming into the station. No announcement either.

At Havant the other day I saw one little brat try and vault the barriers and ended up with his right foot trapped at the top. It was so funny watching the station staff having a good old chuckle for a minute before, of course, having to open the barriers and let it leave.
