    Incredibly grateful.

    Non-Urgent TOPS Requests

A very long shot, but my usual sources have not come up trumps. Could anyone tell me the unit number for the 12:36 Brighton to Seaford on the 30th June? I appreciate most systems may not have info this far back but I have acknowledged it’s a long shot :D

Shelved Plans re Selhurst Triangle Bottleneck

There isn’t the capacity to extend all coastal trains to 12 coaches. Also, what’s the hourly Worthing one missing? Littlehampton is back up to 2tph, giving Worthing half hourly to London. Personally I’d rather see the Victoria - Brighton fasts bought back every half hour.

    Trivia: Worst designed train toilets

It’s not a train, but a station, so an honorary mention. At Raynes Park, the water comes out like a sort of jet, arcing across the sink and then landing in it. It’s novel, not the most usable, but acceptable. Until I’d washed my hands and turned on the dryer above it and it sent a load of air...

Different Driver Depot, Route and Traction cards

Ah you all knew what I meant but a good spot. No, no driver on the regular roster at SN signs the west side of the of the Farlington Triangle.

Different Driver Depot, Route and Traction cards

Been meaning to do this a while. Some more detail on Southern. Barnham: Link 4 Barnham - Brighton Littlehampton branch Bognor Regis branch Barnham - Portsmouth Harbour Ford - Three Bridges via Horsham Brighton - Gatwick Airport Hove - Preston Park Link 3 As above plus Gatwick Airport - London...

    Ely West Curve

It also means a train traverses it each week so they can check the route is good to use. It allows a crew to see if there’s any over growing foliage, dodgy rails etc. so if there’s a closure and they suddenly need to send multiple trains down there a day, they know the route is ready for it.

Sign language on train route information displays (and station departure boards)

No, I agree with that. I hate it when I just miss Page 1 and it rolls through ‘this weather is hot, bring a bottle..’ blah blah, just tell me what platform I’m going too! Just leave one the next departures, I.e. those on Page 1. However, I don’t see why you couldn’t have BSL on the permanent...

Sign language on train route information displays (and station departure boards)

I’ve not seen that. Though I do take your point about departure boards displaying pointless messages. Frequently I watch as Page 1 of 2, rolls on to Page 2 of 2 (I kinda accept that) then a message about hot weather. However that’s (in my experience) always a dot matrix and not the BSL one.

Sign language on train route information displays (and station departure boards)

Why get bothered by something that doesn’t impact your journey but aided someone else’s? I’ve never needed a wheelchair ramp but I’m glad they exist. It helps people. There’s your justification.

Not a good spell for Southern

Just another day on the railway. Things happen and have to be handled as and when they do. Unfortunately, things can happen all at once. Many of these things are no one persons fault but a combination of things such as weather and, ultimately, bad luck. Southern will get it sorted.

    Route learning

Route brief packs have all that info. So if you’re asking for route learning purposes, your DI will provide you with all that. If you’re just an enthusiast wishing to learn, not sure you’d be able to get your hands on that stuff.

Trivia: Busy stations with low station capacity for waiting passengers

As someone who commuted through Twickenham for quite a few years, it’s fine since the rebuild, until it’s an event on. Then it’s rammed.

No more so than any other TOC.

Should Class 222's be moved from Lumo West Coast to East Coast?

No. For the cost of arranging it/getting the approval, then doing the driver training plus the cost of somehow moving them to the opposite operations. Nah.

    Odd connection announcement

Don’t really get what’s wrong here? Not sure what I’m missing. If you’re on a northbound TL then ‘other National Rail services’ could include services to the East Grinstead, Uckfield, Tattenham Corner or Caterham branches. Or maybe onto the London Bridge via Tulse Hill service. Seems a...

    Running Out of Fuel

The 171’s show the driver the fuel gauge. By extension I would assume that means most/all Turbostar variants do too.

Could be either at this time. It’s impossible to say. Both are plausible but so are many other things.

West coast mainline north blocked near wolverton 19.06.26

It could be the plan. But chances are other trains are right behind you meaning they’ll have to be sorted first.

    Strange southern service

I’ve worked services that have been changed on the fly and run nonstop from Three Bridges to Barnham via Hove due to something going wrong on the Arun Valley. It’s often done non-stop. It does also mean that if the closure didn’t take place for whatever reason then it can revert back easily.
