To round this out now it’s its own thread, my excited toddler was holding the button - which at all times (as far as I know) lights up when pressed. Though I would have done too to maximise the time with the door open to get him and our luggage off safely.
I caught a 197 on Sunday and on alighting held the door open button after we had stopped but before the guard had released the doors. On 800s, 150s and 153s this means the door springs open as soon as they’re released. I had thought a 197 was the same, however the door beeped and didn’t open...
I was at Llanelli yesterday, and had a heavy bag so would have used the lift - but one was out of order, and the other had the doors held open by cones to avoid it being used - I assume so someone who could only use the lift didn’t cross the bridge to realise it wasn’t possible to get down...
It would depend I’d say - the crew have to ready the galley for service etc. However if you are near the buffet car and tell the host you’re only going as far as Shrewsbury I would be surprised if you hadn’t finished your meal with time to spare to digest.
Swansea is very good at holding connections, but I guess has the luxury of the lines west of here being fairly quiet. I’m going to Glasgow in a few weeks on an advance which assumes the MkIV is running throughout, I guess I’m best placed to arrive in time to catch the preceding GWR, and if...
The 0543 from Swansea has been a 150 all this week, and cancelled outright once. The connection to the MkIV stock at Cardiff central looks very tight, changing from 3 or 0 to 1. Any ideas if the MkIV is held for the connection, or when this will go back to being a MkIV throughout?
The Swansea one will do 2-3 sittings if busy, and even serve into the adjoining coach if possible. I’ve never not eaten, even if I have had to bide my time elsewhere before being invited through.
Out of interest, are drivers trained on what to expect to feel from a derailment? Or it is just a case of “that feels wrong, I’ll stop safely and inspect”?
I did, but the 1000 arrival (and only seats left) would see me miss our planned start at 0900 on Ben Nevis!
I’d rather not if possible - got caring responsibilities and going away for two nights is already a push.

Actually this isn’t a bad idea, presumably the sleeper at Crewe is...
Hi all,
In early October I’m doing the Three Peaks, and want to get up to Fort William to start with Ben Nevis the next morning.
I imagined my route would be Swansea - Crewe (preferably a 67/225), then Glasgow, and Fort William. It’s looking less easy than I imagined, I’ve got not issue with...
GWR are pretty good at this. My train at Paddington was held for 4 minutes on Tuesday night with the first/rear most door open and the guard standing by it shepherding running people in.
My experience with southern is that they enjoy watching you miss a connection
Potentially not relevant because this is in England, but I’ve had issues recently doing work from a right of way, and instead of having to get land owners permission, even though I won’t deviate from the right way. This has been enforced by the client, a public body
I don’t know about 222s but the GWR 800s’ non-accessible loos have a manual door that will allow you to enter and then discover that it won’t flush and you can’t wash your hands… but you would have privacy.
New app allows you to click straight through to their new delay repay portal, bringing the ticket details through… incorrectly. And as they aren’t currently sending confirmation emails when tickets are booked via the app, they’ve made delay repay less easy that it was!
