    *International* Guess The Station

It is, well done. There was so much freight going through, but unfortunately I was slightly too late in the day to get decent pictures - not quite enough light. And everything was really slow. But still much better than the rubbish amount of freight going through most UK stations

    Good German Freight locations

Plenty of variety/haulage through Berlin Hbf - probably a bit better on the upper level? Been a few years since I was last there though so I may be out of date. For freight you'll probably have to venture out to somewhere on the Ringbahn, but I couldn't say where the best place to go would be

    Hungary passes vs Interrail

By contrast, I was fined (about £26) for using a day pass on the Budapest Metro. I was originally planning to buy a month pass, but then decided to buy a couple of days passes instead because it would save me about £5 or so and didn't properly read the details... That went well!

    Good German Freight locations

Plenty of freight on the Munich bypass and onwards towards Austria (especially at the moment, given that the route via Passau is shut). And seems to be pretty frequent diesel hauled freight using the Simbach route (which is great along the single track sections towards Munich), much of which...

    Natural phenomenon you have witnessed?

A few eclipse images from Gloucestershire. Not brilliant given I didn't get around to acquiring some better camera protective equipment, but maybe I can do that next year! The greenish tint comes from the welding glass I used... And a timelapse

Collecting tickets from a ticket office in Romania (and collecting Interrail reservations)

I will be doing the Istanbul-Bucharest sleeper at the end of September with some friends. We're cheapskates, so the option of booking through CFR (Romania) rather than TCDD (Turkey) to save a not insignificant proportion of the ticket cost is attractive. However, this would apparently mean...

Midlands Rail Hub 20m extra seats

I thought it interesting that, in their social media postings, The Night Owl (one of the venues mentioned) said they knew no more than what was already public. MRH claim to have engaged with potentially affected businesses etc. Is one party bending the truth slightly? Of course, both positions...

    Older cars you have seen

Might have seen a couple of older cars today. This one is particularly relevant to this forum... Easily somewhere in the region of £10-£15 million worth of cars at this event!

Proposed new Channel Tunnel services discussion

Somewhat off topic, but is that unit Austrian-registered? I've not come across class 4746s in Germany but plenty in Austria.

Overnight train from Istanbul to Bucharest (20:00-16:55)

Thanks - I'm tentatively considering doing the journey one way or the other later in the year on a slightly accelerated schedule compared to what the man in seat 61 says. Which means about 6.5 hours in Bucharest going west, or 3/5 hours going east. East is probably more reliable, coming off a...

Overnight train from Istanbul to Bucharest (20:00-16:55)

How much delay can typically be expected on the Bucharest portion (in either direction)? Is it in the region of 1-2 hours, or more like 6+? How variable is it - replies upthread indicate that at least some times it can run on time (+/- a few minutes...)

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

I note that the lines in the drawings have directional arrows. I was under the impression (perhaps mistakenly) that with ETCS you can basically have as much bidirectional working as you like "free of charge" (ok, there might be a bit more too it than just ticking a box in the software, but...

Trivia: Railway stations primarily accessed through shopping centres

One end of the overbridge at Nuremberg goes directly into the adjacent shopping centre. Though the main entrance is at the other end, so probably doesn't fit the criteria
