    *International* Guess The Station

Hässleholm? It looks vaguely familiar, though I can't remember if I've actually changed trains there or not...

    End of loco-hauled Roma-Sicily InterCities?

Got to get that "up all night in a seat but you've travelled the length of Italy" experience! My longest single train journey to date

Overnight train from Istanbul to Bucharest (20:00-16:55)

Thanks - I'm tentatively considering doing the journey one way or the other later in the year on a slightly accelerated schedule compared to what the man in seat 61 says. Which means about 6.5 hours in Bucharest going west, or 3/5 hours going east. East is probably more reliable, coming off a...

Overnight train from Istanbul to Bucharest (20:00-16:55)

How much delay can typically be expected on the Bucharest portion (in either direction)? Is it in the region of 1-2 hours, or more like 6+? How variable is it - replies upthread indicate that at least some times it can run on time (+/- a few minutes...)

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

I note that the lines in the drawings have directional arrows. I was under the impression (perhaps mistakenly) that with ETCS you can basically have as much bidirectional working as you like "free of charge" (ok, there might be a bit more too it than just ticking a box in the software, but...

Trivia: Railway stations primarily accessed through shopping centres

One end of the overbridge at Nuremberg goes directly into the adjacent shopping centre. Though the main entrance is at the other end, so probably doesn't fit the criteria

    Older cars you have seen

No pictures, but a rather shiny "proper American" Ford pickup that looked like it was probably from the 1950s or 60s joining the M5 from the M50 earlier. Immediately in front was another vehicle of a similar age and condition, but a "normal car"... with 4 people in it!

Midlands Rail Hub 20m extra seats

I think something along the lines of "the services diverted from New Street won't be replaced with anything else". Or at least, not as many replacements. Primarily to improve punctuality id have thought

[Trivia] stations where two lines converge on a single station and then both branch off eachother towards different directions.

Assuming I've interpreted the question correctly, here's a few more I can think of (apologies if they've already been mentioned): Shrewsbury Wolverhampton Bridgend Exeter St David's Basingstoke Lewes Tonbridge Peterborough Lincoln Romiley Stockport Salford Crescent Wigan Wallgate...

Midlands Rail Hub 20m extra seats

A few observations I have: There seems to be rather a lot of new infrastructure proposed for what is, is the grand scheme of things, not that many additional services (unless the plan is to divert some trains from New Street in addition to new services). Notably, six tracks along the approach...

    New cars you have seen

Did it look a bit like this*? I had the (dis)pleasure or driving one of these for a week in Italy recently. It was awful - especially for mountain passes. *This one is actually a dr 6.0 (yes, I'd never heard of them either!). It's apparently an Italian rebadge of a Chery Tiggo 7.

    Flights you have been on

Two flights for me recently: Luton to Milan Malpensa on Wizzair, mid-afternoon. Lots of firsts on this flight for me: new airline, new airports and new aircraft type (A321-200). About an hour's delay to departure. Not much legroom, for reasons I'm still not quite sure of there were people sat...

    Current large road building projects

It appears to have now been confirmed that Newark is one of the casualties of the increased defence spending; the other is the A38 roundabouts in Derby (which I seem to think was cancelled by Chris Grayling on some rather dubious grounds and then restarted a few years later?)

    Current large road building projects

Possibly, although I believe there is a quote from National Highways somewhere saying that they're going to procure a new contractor. All very vague (just like the "announcement" about road and energy projects having funding diverted to defence) But we all know that cancelling infrastructure...

    Current large road building projects

Vaguely on topic for this thread, the Newark bypass upgrade appears to have been halted: National Highways have cancelled their contract with Skanska (construction contractor): https://www.constructionenquirer.com/2026/06/29/national-highways-axes-skanskas-300m-a46-newark-bypass-deal/ Not much...

CPOs and the potential to make a profit on them

Are there any tax breaks which could be implemented to encourage residential development by pension funds? (Kind of inspired by the "Gordon Brown went on a pension fund tax raid" story that I've heard a few times but don't know the details of as it's from around the time I was born... Basically...

    [AT] Austrian timetable 2026 online

I travelled yesterday. And there were delays! Some delays (also affecting DB Regio services) on the single track Munich to Simbach route. The middle of the day train from Vienna to Munich was several hours late throughout. But none of the delays really affected me, I just replanned as I went...
