    Conductor future?

As a Conductor I have recently heard about the plans to try and convert more services to driver only trains, especially from the new franchise for Northern in 2016. I love the Conductor role and wondered what other Conductor's think of this and if they think this is something that could actually...

    Medical assessment

On a similar note when I had my medical I was on medication, namely antibiotics for a mouth infection, strong painkillers related to this and I had taken over the counter sleeping pills to try and get some rest from the pain. I passed with no problems, but would have failed had I not declared...

    Declined cards

As a Conductor working in Manchester I probably have around 35% of credit/debit cards declined week in week out. I just wanted to ask what do other Conductors/Train Managers do in this situation? Do you let them travel, issue an UFN or make them leave the train? This is becoming a major problem...

    Job Interview with Northern Rail

Its certainly not a low grade job nobody wants as you will read on here. Remember £25000 is your basic pay. I am a Conductor at Vic and have earned £32500 this tax year, so if you are prepared to work the odd rest day you can have a decent living from the job. Good luck at your interview...

    Late fiftys

'Talent Pool' - does this work?

I was put in the talent pool for a conductor role last february (2012) before I even had an interview. In the meantime I passed my assessments for a different depot and was put in their talent pool. In October I was offered an interview for the first job (8 months later) and because I had passed...

    Conductor at Northern

I started on the course last November so have just gone on full pay. In training you get more than the stated training salary as you get travelling time from your home depot to the training acedemy. So instead of £17,800 I was averaging the equivalent of £19,800 at least. And my depot is pretty...

    Northern conductor interview and assessments

Dont give up. I have nearly finished my Conductors course after 12 applications and 4 different interviews. And I have done the job before. Some on my course were accepted the first time and some took over 12 months, like myself. Keep looking and applying and you will get there. Good luck.
