Hi everyone,
I was looking to travel from Guildford to Dublin using RailSail from Monday 22nd June until Friday or Saturday (26th or 27th).
Are RailSail tickets quota-controlled? I can still get foot passenger tickets from Holyhead, but can't find any RailSail tickets for sale. The cost of the...
Is it possible to download the routeing guide maps?
I find using the maps on my phone more awkward, so I'd like to download them so I can display them in Google Maps app.
Then I could display two maps at once in different colours or even more.
Tonight I am taking a longer permitted route home...
My apologies if this has been asked before.
Apart from the Tornado test runs, when was the last time a steam locomotive ran over 75 mph? I don't mean slightly over by accident but up to or above 100 mph, for example.
I wondered this after watching an excellent documentary on the 1968 attempt...
A colleague shared a news report that Berrylands station is due to temporarily close next year.
https://www.ianvisits.co.uk/articles/berrylands-station-wood-platform-repairs-to-close-the-station-for-several-months-80581/
It got me wondering, how many other stations have wooden platforms...
Apologies if this has come up before and I've missed it.
Today I just missed the 17:43 Guildford to Godalming service.
I was expecting the next train to be at 18:12 but to my surprise it was 18:05.
Now both trains start London Waterloo 30 minutes apart at 17:00 and 17:30 respectively.
They...
At what stations and platforms are trains allowed to depart early? More than 1 minute early.
I am so use to a train pulling into platform 12 at Clapham Junction and waiting before departure that I was surprised today to find the 08:08 departed just over 6 minutes early.
It seems platform 7, 10...
When buying split tickets I usually use the forums site or trainsplit but most of my tickets are not split tickets, as that isn't a cheaper option for the majoirt6 of my travel.
Currently I am using trip.com as they offer a 4% discount if you spend £9.99 on their train card. You get up to 90...
I was doing some research for someone and looked up the Two Together railcard.
On the Web site home page it says:
https://www.twotogether-railcard.co.uk/
When I click on the Full eligibility and terms button it takes me to the following web page...
I booked some walk up tickets from trip.com and half an hour or so after being issued with the eTickets, I noticed the following notification from Lloyds Bank
Declined: £13.29 at TRIP.COM. The merchant processed this incorrectly. You can talk to them about other ways to pay. Or, use a different...
I know we no longer talk about disruption unless it's on the national nees but I found this rather interesting and to me rather unusual, hence my post. If anyone disagrees then close it.
A shopping trolly on the track cased the 15:43 Guildford to Reading service to depart 56 minutes at 15:39...
They have now finished the two week closure of the North Downs Line between Guikdford and Reigate.
I have read that there will be less closures requires in future, as it will be more reliable. That is to be welcomed. This will be once all the level crossings go live in October, of course, as...
If you lived in a town centre in the UK and had enough land, could you build a stable to keep a couple of horses and a carriage for personal use, or have planning laws changed to make such things no longer possible? Welfare laws may also have changed.
What about a hotel or pub, which might want...
I tried to find an earlier thread but couldn't locate it.
Now that the larger circulating area at Gatwick Airport above platforms 5 to 7 has been open for sometime, has the space there ever got busy with lots of people? It's large enough to hold a reasonable number.
Am I right in thinking it...
This is something I have never experienced before.
I am on a direct rail replacement bus from Guildford to Gatwifk Airport. Rather than go down the M23, it has taken a route off the M25 through Redhill. Once in Redhill it stopped to change drivers. It's a mini-coach.
The timetable of course...
Assume the GWR_help staff replying on X, formerly known as Twitter, are correct, why has no ticket acceptance between arranged for the 2 weeks of engineering works closing the line between Redhill and Guildford? I know they don't always bother for weekend closures but they have arranged...
A friend is travelling from Turnpike Lane to Guildford on Sunday and back.
They have a zone 2-3 weekly season but no discount railcard and as they are turning 60 shortly, are waiting for that day.
I wondered if they should buy a West Hampstead to Guildford ticket as it would enable them to...
I'm going from Guildford to the West Hampstead Arts Club on Thursday
I need to arrive by 18:00 but I might be able to arrive by 19:00, if the event I'm attending starts later than they advertise. I'm still finding out.
It claims to finish at 22:30 but might overun.
Is the best way to get...
I am planning on going to Retro Tech UK 2025 but there is one problem, it's on Sunday 11 May and I don't drive.
The address is The Sports Connexion, Leamington Road, Ryton On Dunsmore, Coventry, CV8 3FL.
Google suggests no buses on a Sunday but their are buses Monday to Saturday.
Would I be...
Which railway services are crewed from depots at just one end of the line?
On the North Downs Line (Raeding to Gatwick Airport), the crew depot is at the Reading end and if any problem arises, it means shuttle services cannot run east of the problem but can be arranged west of the problem. The...
How often do rail replacement buses depart early?
I am at Farncombe with a friend and today the rail replacement buses are hourly at x32. We got here 5 minutes before the bus should depart as that is when I purchased a train ticket.
So far two buses have gone in the opposite direction and it's...
