Off up to Edinburgh today and whilst I’m getting an earlier train I can’t help noticing (according to RTT which may of course have received incorrect data) that the 0930 from King’s Cross is a pair of 5 car sets 800203 and 801103.
801103 is one of the electric only (save for the emergency...
During disruption a passenger (in theory, and in law) has a selection of rights in which the railway is obliged to get them to their destination using alternative transport.
This will only get them to their ticketed destination (or a station en route to it should the ticket restrictions allow...
I’m travelling to London today (return Thursday) on a First Anytime Return from Whitwell to London Terminals (via Nottingham). It’s cheaper than 2 of the any permitted (now called not via Doncaster) singles and the closure of the ECML today means it’s pointless buying this.
However, on...
It appears that some high winds are predicted north of Newcastle tomorrow.
LNER already cancelled most planned services north of Newcastle to be replaced with an hourly service at restricted speed.
No doubt other operators will be planning similar.
Services are already very busy (I know, I’m...
It’s been a good while since I’ve done a trip report here, and this one may end up being more boring than the huge gap between them, infact I shall likely ensure it takes longer to read than the journey itself but alas we shall continue. The trains content is quite low compared to some reports...
For some time now, reminded a few time more recently we see instances where rail staff (be it station staff, guards or dedicated revenue protection) give advice to passengers which can end up with the passenger getting into trouble, or more trouble than implied.
Some examples,
1) A passenger...
Went to Harrogate Thursday with the wife for a couple of days away. In the late afternoon we decided to go to Knaresborough, out on the bus and back on the train.
Wanted to pay by cash (£5.20 for the 2 of us, SDSs with a two together railcard in the evening peak).
Obtained a promise to pay to...
Are there any retailers that will still let you buy a ticket online without an itinerary.
I’m travelling to London tomorrow and there are no trains on a Sunday from my local station but there are on Tuesday when I return. Normally I just buy the ticket at the station as they can issue it from...
Yes and no. As a rule no, they don’t offer splits “off route” so to speak, but there are some puzzling alternatives, Leeds to London isn’t valid via York, (but York to London is valid via Leeds) but Trainline will offer Leeds to London with a split at York.
Has anyone else noticed some of the ludicrous prices people are asking for stuff on places like F*cebook Marketpl*ace and groups in the last couple of years?
What are people thinking ? I have often thought I just be out of touch with the value of stuff but it just seems like people want...
It’s fairly common knowledge that the popular bi mode class 80* units are notably faster on electric than on diesel. I’m assuming the cost of running them on Diesel is greater than on electric too.
should there be a supply problem (but no physical damage blocking the line) to the ohle and...
Hopefully a quick one to answer, i’ve tried to look but can’t seem to pinpoint the dates.
I’ve always liked the railway but have only really become particularly interested in the last 10 years so despite going on trains I’m not sure what they are likely to have been so hoping some can give me...
Initial comments : This does related to the pandemic but not away from the railway topic, feel free to move it to a different area if necessary.
Having been without "away" work for the last 12 months i am starting to get a few more bits filtering in that requires me to travel. As a little...
I haven’t spotted this article on here as yet. It’s an interesting concept, it’s not a main line and it doesn’t ordinarily run trains in the week, and it’s possible it was confirmed as safe before hand though there’s nothing to suggest this, but what message does this give kids of today, at a...
*It's diagram and timetable related i would say but feel free to move if you think it's better suited elsewhere*
With recent announcements that Whitwell (my home station) and Langwith (2 stations south) is to change to a 1 train per 2 hour service from hourly on the line from next month, i...
It’s well known and documented (though I’m sure some will disagree with the concept) that if you are to use an electronic ticket type you must have purchased it and in the case of the horrific M-Tickets, activated it before you board the train, and likely before you go through the barriers where...
It has been brought to my attention that a number of operator's are telling passengers that certain procedures need to be done at a ticket office. This includes refunds for tickets purchased there, the common ticket type here is of course season tickets.
Whilst i appreciate that the standard...
From the brief points made in this thread i note that Newcastle to Leicester now has only 2 route restrictions on ticketing. A via Sheffield, and a (slightly more expensive) via Peterborough fare.
This seems to prohibit several relatively sensible 'alternative routes' that were historically...
Please feel free to disallow such a thread if you feel it necessary. I’ve been reading a few reports already of claims being reject for passengers travelling or supposedly travelling on Sunday 9th during the major disruption.
I’d be interested to hear of how people get on with their claims...
so the Trainline app (iOS and Android) appear to be changing ticket types on payment screens.
You can choose your journey. State what ticket type you want and then the payment screen reverts to a different type. Notably this is a day return and often an operator restricted one at that.
A...
