How does one find out, before booking a ticket, whether a particular leg of a multi-leg Advance will be tied to a specific service, or allow the flexibility of "& Connections"?
I am trying to book an Advance from St Albans, changing at St Pancras and Derby, to Matlock. The passenger would like...
Does anyone else share my concerns that the Mini Switzerland scheme in Derbyshire isn't going to provide very useful learning in return for its £12m investment?
(Note - £12m, not the widely-quoted £6m, as page 32 of this document shows that the government's £6m is matched by £6m from the East...
At 0620 this morning, a recorded announcement boomed out at Matlock station, reminding passengers to look after their bags, and to keep clear of the platform edge because fast trains might come through at speed.
With the first train just departed, it would be over an hour before the next train...
Below a list of cancellations for Tue-Fri this week. EMR have this note:
If you hold an 'Advance' ticket for a train listed above, you may use your ticket at no extra cost on East Midlands Railway services two hours earlier or two hours later than your original train.
Are they OK to restrict...
What is the entitlement to Delay Repay here, please?
A passenger was intending to use the return half of a SuperOffpeak ticket (Matlock-London) on the 1902 (first after blackout) from St Pancras last Friday.
EMR cancelled the 1902 and allowed travel on previous two trains. Passenger caught...
I am looking to book an early-morning one-way ticket Derby-London for Wed 15 July.
Cheapest, by far, is via Tamworth, on Advance tickets with XC and LNW. The itinerary gives a 6 minute change onto the 0636 LNW to Euston.
But if that connection is missed, the next LNW train appears to be 1h20m...
EMR have cancelled 27 MML trains today (Tue 7 July) - but you might easily miss this.
At the time of writing (0745 on the day), both the 1400 and 1600 Sheffield-London are showing as running on RTT. But as Cancelled on National Rail. I appreciate that they use different feeds, but how useful is...
Worcestershire County Council are reporting 80,000 DRT journeys in a year.
Is that good going? They offer no info on number of vehicles, let alone utilisation levels or subsidy cost per journey.
Shoukd the DRT-sceptic ignore this as just another bit of PR puff (hey, everyone, look at this big...
If a train is due to run Birmingham-Derby-Leeds, is there really no better description possible on the Derby arrivals board than "Birrningham via Leeds"?
The staff at Derby didn't think this at all confusing:
Can anyone help me understand the effort required for an operator to feed Google Maps in addition to other journey planners?
My local (subsidised) service, 172 Matlock-Bakewell was always listed on all the platforms I tried when run by Hulleys. But replacement operator Andrews have never...
The East Midlands Mayor is consulting on a Transport Plan (available as Summary or Full Report).
Has anyone given this scrutiny? There is a public consultation currently open, with a deadline of Sunday, 8th Feb. It would be very good to hear from others on the Forum who have views on the plans...
What is the best way of producing a list of trains over (say) the last seven days which have taken more than x minutes between departure from Station A and arrival at Station B? I am a competent programmer but cannot afford to pay for data access.
I am on the warpath with EMR over their use of...
The standard acknowledgment for an email enquiry to a TOC seems to be "We aim to send you a full reply within 20 working days, however during busy periods where we experience high volumes of correspondence this could be for an extended period of time".
Where did anybody get the idea that four...
I've been looking to book a direct train Oxford-Derby on Wed 24 December for an elderly relative. None of the journey planners are showing any direct trains, whereas there are direct trains on Wed 17 December, a week earlier (but after the new timetable starts).
Crosscountry couldn't explain...
I wrote to EMR to ask why they didn't offer Secret Fare tickets from the Matlock branch to/from London. We can of course buy to/from Derby and add a local ticket but this means not only much higher costs (a 60% premium over the Derby fare, whereas flexible London tickets are the same price), but...
I am arranging travel for an elderly relative, but have hit a problem due to the temporary timetable that SWR are running on the Waterloo-Exeter service.
The passenger is travelling out Oxford - Axminster tomorrow. There is no problem with this.
She is returning on Wed 13, when the new...
In her Guardian article yesterday (5 Aug 2025), Polly Toynbee says, of the Channel Tunnel, "Twelve trains an hour run each way, but the tunnel could run 2.5 times more".
Pedantically, 2.5 times more would be 42 trains per hour (12 + (2.5*12)). Assuming that she really only means 2.5 times as...
I have been battling with my county council, who issued a Road Closure notice covering 74 consecutive days to cover resurfacing that turns out to involve just seven days of activity. It appears that the plan was to announce specific dates a few days ahead, by signs on the road.
A safety margin...
From tonight, the last train of the day from Derby to Matlock (2255 ex Nottingham) has been retimed at just two stations (one minute later earlier leaving Derby and Duffield). The result is that Matlock branch passengers can no longer make a recognised connection from the 2102 ex St Pancras...
I am helping someone with a Disabled Freedom Pass plan a journey from Euston to Tring. Trainsplit.com gives an error for this journey so I am trying ring to work it out for myself.
Buying a Boundary Zone 6 ticket is tricky, and sometimes is is only a few pence more from the last Zone 6 station...
