Is there a list of planned East Coast Main Line upgrades anywhere?
I was not aware of the bottleneck at Stoke Tunnel and the effect it has on traffic from Nottingham to East Anglia. While a 1 km tunnel is not going to be cheap it seems that at the moment Nottingham through Peterborough and out...
Preferred site for Skelmersdale's first railway station revealed
This is going to be a very expensive location as it involves a tunnel under the M58 unless it can fit under the same bridge as Whitegate road. STill think a Train-Tram system would be better.
Does anyone have any pointers to articles on the netkous viaduct? Particularly regarding cost per KM of building it and the time compared with ordinary surface tram.
Is the Fishnet actually structural or just for decoration of safety?
I noticed a while ago that the German ICE 3 train has linear eddy current braking that uses the track, as the stator. I wondered with the track could be used as the stator for a linear motor. There are several systems which do use linear motors but all seem to use a separate stator, in the...
Many years ago part of a cutting was covered over in Liverpool to allow the expansion of Liverpool University. Now there is a plan to develop a knowledge quarter to the east of the university. See...
The river end of Liverpool's Waterloo tunnel is getting some work. This article from the Echo claims that Network Rail wants it protected to allow future freight access to the docks.
While I'd keep the tunnel I would have thought the chances of it being reused for freight were minimal, given...

If building a new junction would a 270 turn be acceptable it was composed of section of track that where used for other routes through the junction? and allowed the number of points on the high speed section to be reduced by 1?
I'm just considering how a Liverpool to HS2 junction might work...
Ed Balls and Osbourne have both made comments about HS3 and both seem to back it but when you actually crunch the numbers the biggest improvement is Liverpool to Manchester, which looks to be very ambitious, while the Leeds Hull section seems be no more than the currently proposed...
The Sheffield Experiment on Tram Trains, has me puzzled. http://www.sheffieldtelegraph.co.uk/news/business/60m-deal-signed-for-first-uk-tram-trains-1-5789572
What is it actually a test of, the engineering has been tested in many places. The economic of the scheme are specific to that project...
When was the Midland Mainline cut back from Manchester to Derby?
Is there anywhere with timetables for express journeys via the route from London to Manchester?
Where services ever run via it from London to Liverpool?
Has there been any plans to reinstate the closed 14 miles of track...
I was a bit disappointed with the times to Norwich and started investigating alternative routes. One of the most underdeveloped parts is the Birmingham to Peterborough section. In the 70s there where various plans to electrify it.
Have there been any recent plans to upgrade it...
What does it take for a line to be cleared for tilting? How much effort/equipment is involved?
And as an auxiliary question does any one know how long it actually takes a Pendolino to make the Stafford Nuneaton trip? Not bothered about stopping.
