I'm looking to lead a session on human factors in a non-rail setting. I have a few domain-relevant scenarios in mind. Some of the training I got a few years ago followed an incident from some air accident that had terrible Customer Relationship Management (CRM). I don't remember much of it -...

I had a recent trip to London. The journey was Ealing Broadway to Liverpool Street (direct Elizabeth Line) St Paul's to Ealing Broadway, via TCR. The signed route taking us up, through a gate, through a huge queue into another gate and back down. (Grr) My card shows £6.60 for the day. My wife...

I saw a picture on Reddit of a Northern Line Guinness advert. It is effectively a Dark Mode line map, with a white top in the style of a Guinness glass. I have unsuccessfully searched for another source for this - it might be that this is an early image of it, or it may be some form of...

I've seen this a few times. Keep wondering about it. Saw it again today. Can't find it on Streetview. I'm sure it was on the right as we were going southbound... There is a viaduct made up of a few brick spans, then a "plain" metal span for want of a better word. How come this has such a...

A thought prompted by the BSR thread. Driver asks if a BSR has been lifted. Told yes. Drives at line speed. Is found to have been in excess of the limit in place at the time So, here's a scenario I'm curious about... Driver is aware of a temporary limit. Driver is on the first train of the...

This is possibly my most contentious question here. Last week, I booked some train tickets for work and thought "I'll try etickets." So, I have two A4 PDFs on my laptop which I cannot print, due to the IT policy and network restrictions. I can (probably) email them to my personal email and...

I remember back in NSE days spending a lot of time at in the ticket office/waiting room at Fratton and there was a sign taped to the glass of the seller window that said something along the lines of "Network Railcards are not valid on the 0958 to Waterloo" Nice, clear, simple, unambiguous...

I'm trying to help find ticket prices for someone who needs to go to Wood Green on Friday. I'm used to using ticket portals to get trains to Russel Square, with systems letting me buy a ticket to the fairly vague "Underground Zone 1" and creating an itenary for that. I have also had tickets...

I was meant to be doing some work in London for two days, needing travel to Russell Square. This is a journey I have done many times, and got work to book me a ticket from my home station to Zone 1. I have accommodation arranged near King's Cross. There has been a change of plan and I have been...

I need to do a trip to London on Saturday. Plan had been to park at Liphook station, get a train up, do a shift, come back, done. Happy. Easy. However... I've been asked to cover Sunday as well, which has caused a few logistic issues. One of those that is a question mark is parking... I can...

Splitting this from the disruption thread to here... I have submitted a delay repay claim with SWR. I have received a decision email, but am being told I cannot appeal until I receive a decision notification. When will I be able to submit further information? In hindsight, I should have done...

I have seen a lot of "my railcard expires, but I didn't know" problems. This year, I got a reminder in the post that my physical railcard was expiring soon and warning me not to try to use it once expired. This arrived while the card was in its last month. I don't remember getting this in...

I'm not sure if this should live here or elsewhere. The thread on stop orders made me wonder about a few scenarios, and I didn't want to clog up that thread on a massive detour. I'm curious about these, and wonder if my understanding of the situations are close to accurate We have 4...

Hi all I've had to alter my travel plans for the weekend and get the train to London. I was going to be spending Saturday in East Croydon, which I usually do by driving to Merton Park and getting the tram. I was then tasked with some extra work the next day, so work were going to put me up...

Hi I had a look at NRE earlier on my mobile for a trip I am making at the weekend: 17/08, Haslemere to London Waterloo 20/08, London Waterloo to Haslemere 2 adults with Network Railcard I was given a ticket cost of £38-ish, or with travelcard for £48-ish I just did the same search and got a...

Another thread on here made me think again about a job I had a while ago, but from a logistical point of view. There was a 4 track section of third rail. A train was stopped beyond a station following an incident on one of the Down lines (left most), there was 1/4-1/2 a mile between the end of...

I was meant to be on the 0804 from Haslemere, but due to traffic I was late getting there. There were two trains to Waterloo after that, 0832 and 0839. These were both delayed, and the 32 left first. The guard informed us we were 21L so could get delay repay. This was meant to be non stop...

I've been moving around London a bit on contact less, but need to end up going from Waterloo to Haslemere. Will I need to get a single from Waterloo or is there some option for tapping in and transferring to a Zone 6 boundary ticket? Or would that be more expensive? Ultimately, what's my best...

I've got another annoying question for you, once again seeming to involve routes via Guildford. I've got to go to Bourne End on Thursday from Havant, and a colleague is coming from Cosham. I have put the journeys in to NRE, and there are routes from Havant (0540) -> Guildford (0642) -> Reading...
