The Deltics were maintained at Doncaster. The NIR 'Hunslet' Class 101 was built in Doncaster between March and June of 1970. I don't know the layout of Doncaster works, but would they have been close?
Or even, what Deltics were there at those dates?
I know it's a bit of a longshot, but...
I'm finding it difficult to but tickets for Sunday 13/4 /25 between Coventry and Manchester Piccadilly. The trainline app hasn't got any trains, the National Rail app tells me it can't find a valid fare, that's after crashing several times. I'm aware that there will be a bus substitution...
Whilst I'm using my FIP tickets for a railway trip in England next month, I'm travelling with my Grandson, so I bought tickets on Trainline last night.
However, despite the train being advertised as direct, the tickets are from York to Newark North Gate, and from there to our destination in...
I've just watched 'The Navigators', the film about the early days of privatisation. It certainly paints a bleak picture. How accurately does it reflect the situation at the time?
Why is it that hot weather in the summer is climate change,
https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-63244353
'Scientists at the Met Office who carried out the analysis described this summer's extreme temperatures as a "real indication of how our climate is changing.'
Yet cold weather in...
How bad is the Tyne and Wear Metro, and more specifically the airport branch for anti social behaviour? I understand that it's normally Friday and Saturday nights that are problematic for all transport systems, but I remember reading news stories about the problems the Metro system had.
I hope to be travelling to Gatwick and onwards to Peterborough with my Grandson soon. I'm going on a Saturday, so I'm told I can use a Super Off Peak Return. We would like to use the Gatwick Express to Victoria, then sample the Underground to King's Cross and on to Peterborough. However, when on...
I'm listening to Punt PI on BBC sounds. This programme is about the supposed steam loco reserve. Apparently steam loco's were kept as they wouldn't succumb to the effects of a nuclear explosion on electrical systems that would affect diesel loco's, but surely the signalling system would be...
Hi. I hope to travelling return from Stansted Airport to Peterborough on the 15th of April. Will the timetable be much different from the one now? Or would there be many differences?
Thanks.
I was talking to a friend of a friend today, who says his daughter, just about to go through GCSE's, can speak German fluently. Is that possible at that age?
I did hear that many years ago a railwayman was about to leave work on a dark night. The car, with possibly only one headlight, then promptly blew the other one. Not about to be undone, he got another Bardic lamp, and along with his own lamp, proceeded to duct tape them to the wings of the car...
When the first AC loco's arrived at a terminal station, before push pull, did another loco form the train engine, or were the coaches hauled out to a depot? And what hauled them?
Thanks.
I know some Stranraer services in the 80's ran to Carlisle then Newcastle, but if a passenger wished to go to Edinburgh, was a change at Ayr required, for a Glasgow service?
Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but I saw a Top Gear episode today which had the original trio using a Jaguar to haul a trailer with passengers, and an Audi hauling caravans on PW trollies with passengers in the caravans on the Great Central Railway. I'm wondering how they were...
