Manchester Metrolink planner

It's probably me, but I find the Manchester Metrolink planner to be user unfriendly. Am I the only one?

There are some real pain points with it. My suggestion would be to try Google Maps, just make sure you note the destination on the tram matches the one on the journey plan. In their infinite wisdom, TfGM have decided to pretend the line colours which they send in the GTFS data that Google uses don't exist, even though they are the ones that put them on the maps, and in the data feed.

And why don't the 'next tram' boards show the stopping points, not just the terminal?

There aren't any skip stop patterns so the stopping points can be worked out quite easily by looking at one of the maps on the platforms.
