    Redundancies due to Covid

OK, for balance is there a list of jobs created since March? (the definition of a job being a full time role which is not considered to be a "gig" or self employment)

    Redundancies due to Covid

Thank you. That's just the list I was looking for. Shocking isn't it. Is it any worse than the 2008 financial crash?

It's the Daily Express. It has an on/off relationship with facts.

New Job Support Scheme announced to replace Furlough scheme from 1 November

I guess the government are assuming that the employers will pay the other 33%. Which is obviously stupid. How can an employer with zero income do this? It would just hasten the demise of the company. What about the self employed whose main clients are the businesses forced to close?

    Masks in emergency situations

I've seen those computer models that predict human behaviour when evacuating buildings. I'd love it if someone modelled what would happen if each person spent a few seconds fiddling with their mask, then either waited for their glasses to finish steaming up, or because they couldn't see went...

Further Restrictions Announced by Johnson (22/09)

Then we follow the examples set in France and Italy where patients are moved to areas with low incidences. Remember the TGVs turned into mobile ITUs during April?

Further Restrictions Announced by Johnson (22/09)

I think about 3% of NHS beds are occupied by Covid patients. That's before we factor in the Nightingales. The MPs who are claiming that the NHS is close to capacity should be ashamed of themselves.

Further Restrictions Announced by Johnson (22/09)

According to the French PM, this is their "top level" of restrictions. Don't forget the French public have a history of taking direct action, much more so than us. The government there are on the back foot anyway with the Gilets Jaunes protests, it wouldn't take much for burning tyres to...

Further Restrictions Announced by Johnson (22/09)

Looking at the Arcgis map, via the Covid dashboard, you can see clearly where the universities are just by the density of infections. Brighton has a dark blob, Exeter has one, Guildford has one, Bath has one. However some university towns don't, like Plymouth. Why is this I wonder?

    Supermarkets and Covid-19

My mother has reported back that the bog roll shelves in her Waitrose are empty, except for the budget range which has plentiful supply. Hmm. Perhaps the punishment for panic buying should be a compulsion to use only Izal Medicated for a month.

    Redundancies due to Covid

Is there a tally anywhere of how many companies have announced mass redundacies since March? Today it's been HSS Hire (800), earlier in the week it was Greene King. It's difficult to keep up with it. In the grand tradition of @Bletchleyite the rights and wrongs of Covid restrictions are being...

    New Scottish COVID-19 Restrictions 07/10/2020

De facto is different though to setting up a physical border post. In addition there could not be a independence vote if the Scottish Parliament was suspended, as there would be no one to organise it

    New Scottish COVID-19 Restrictions 07/10/2020

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, an attempt at a border closure=suspension of devolution.

Just a thought, is there any requirement bring a car to click and collect? Could you turn up on a bicycle?

    Masks in emergency situations

Going back to the OP, there's a world of difference between someone who has a high probability of being Covid positive responding to a fire alarm going off in their flats versus an office building going up with flames licking your backside. Anyone who advises mask wearing in the former situation...

Covid : Infection rates v death rates and a possible second wave

The quality of English in that FAQ leads me to believe that this is an office junior who has drafted the paragraph, and not anyone from the proper communications team. Therefore I'd take it with a pinch of salt (pun not intended)

Further Restrictions Announced by Johnson (22/09)

It'll be an announcement of the traffic light system, with rationalisation of the rules in the North, complete with the same pub rules that Scotland has introduced. It won't be any form of stay at home order or travel restriction (beyond "advice") no matter how the Daily Express dress it up.

    New Scottish COVID-19 Restrictions 07/10/2020

Let's turn the tables for a second. I spent a week in Scotland in August. I live in the south west of England. Cases here were extremely low, and continue to be. Therefore I took an enormous personal risk by going to the infection hotspot that is Scotland, just to help prop up the tourist...

Further Restrictions Announced by Johnson (22/09)

In one of my locals you'd be chucked out at 10 pre Covid. It's just they way they run their pub. They do a lot of trade with food at lunchtime, and have chosen to position themselves as a hiker and cyclist type of place. There's nothing in the licence that says they can't close early.

    Supermarkets and Covid-19

It would effectively be a private police force, which would not go down well with the public, or indeed the actual police. In other news, went to Asda today for click and collect. It's getting more popular, I had to wait in the car for about 10 minutes to get my stuff, whereas I was straight...
