1st Class Upgrade on a Split Ticket

I don't know about other TOCs, but at least on ScotRail, for the last several years it has only been possible to purchase Weekend First on board. It was previously possible to buy at the ticket office. Last night, I offered to buy on board but the conductor didn't seem interested; I...

    XC Catering

Welcome to XC services in Scotland. No catering at all after Edinburgh (i.e. to/from Aberdeen or Glasgow). First class fares are ridiculously high for what they are (not) offering, considering the competition is VTEC's first class offer.

Possible plans for Edinburgh Waverley station?

There's a similar situation at Aberdeen. The taxi rank is inside the station, but there is a floor-to-ceiling glass screen between the taxi rank and the main passenger concourse.

    Scotrail misleading passengers

It will be, as has already been suggested by others: 1. For their own operational convenience (can't or won't implement a means of validating the cards); 2. Because they know they will be able to get away with it in 99.9% of cases because the customers don't know any better. I live in Aberdeen...

    Scottish Electrification updates & discussion

That was just a 1 week stoppage after some particularly heavy rainfall lead to a lot of muddy water entering watercourses.

    Scottish Electrification updates & discussion

The AWPR schedule has not slipped that I'm aware of? If anything, it's ahead of the original schedule in that some junctions are due to open before the end of this year. http://www.transport.gov.scot/project/aberdeen-western-peripheral-route-balmedie-tipperty

    Routing restrictions forbidding quickest routes

Glasgow to Leuchars via Dundee doesn't involve a double-back.

Abellio Scotrail - 1 year on

I posted a £10 First Advance ticket I bought a few weeks ago in the "New ticket design launched" thread. I'm not sure there will be a £7.50 First Advance fare. I see it in the Abellio press release, but it's not mentioned in the Franchise Agreement. --- old post above --- --- new post below...

Abellio Scotrail - 1 year on

The headline £10 First Class Advance fare is a franchise requirement. I am not sure where the £7.50 has come from; that is not mentioned in the Franchise agreement.

    Who's in the wrong?

There is no legal requirement to provide ID for taking a domestic flight in the UK. If you believe otherwise, I would be glad if you could provide me with the details. Airlines make up their own rules. Being in possession of a credit card with a name on it which matches the manifest...

Abellio Scotrail - 1 year on

The £10 first class fares have been on sale for a couple of weeks now. I think they're available for travel dates from mid May onwards. It was always explained that the £5 standard and £10 first class advance fares wouldn't come with seat reservations. Regarding the catering, I remember...

    Who's in the wrong?

That's not really true. I have flown domestically within the UK several times in recent months and all that I needed to show was a credit card with a name that matched the reservation. No photo ID is required. http://www.easternairways.com/faqs "Q. What acceptable forms of ID will be...

    New Ticket Design Launched

Also noted the inconsistency in TOC name, i.e. "ScotRail" (correct) and "Scotrail" (incorrect).

    New Ticket Design Launched

That's not the case on the example which I just posted. I agree that the lack of descenders doesn't help readability.

    New Ticket Design Launched

Some can be quite clear. The font for parts is very small though. Here is an example of a new ScotRail Advance ticket with no specific seat assignment, printed by an East Coast TVM.

Realtime Trains blocked by ScotRail WiFi

Quite. I have no idea why this is even being discussed as an issue. It will be a few kB at most to view RTT.
