Railway Enthusiasts at Stations - is a clearer policy needed?

A couple of weeks ago I was on Vauxhall station enjoying snapping the class 707’s when I was approached & asked what I was doing. I told the assistant & at first got the feeling he couldn’t be bothered with whatever I said but after continuously being polite he seemed to back down & we went to...

    Railcard for over 50’s ?

Hi I’m fast approaching my 50th birthday & was wondering if there was a railcard for single types like me.

    HST Driving techniques

Was at Leicester this morning & during Christmas shopping I popped to the station for a few hrs. I noticed a few hst power cars clagging a lot more than usual. 43060 on a Nottingham bound service was a right beast until way past the old EWS depot. Have Neville cut back on maintenance or was this...

5 yrs ago? I sometimes have trouble remembering what I did 5 hrs ago!! Weirdly though I did bump into someone who I was in a class with at school today & that was nearly 40 yrs ago. We talked for an hour reminiscing as if it happened yesterday.

    All nighters on stations.

Until they put the sliding doors in at Tamworth I & a few others used to overnight at Tamworth. Used to be stupidly busy at night especially the low level. Now they tell you to leave around 11pm. You can spot from the car park but the low level lights go out at 1am,well at least they used to...

    Last thing you ate...

    Virgin Media

We too have virgin media. Have had several set boxes trying to cure the crappy pixelated pictures on the new tv. They come out & fill you with all sorts of nonsense saying it's the tv or it's the cabinet. Now we have the added bonus of the internet crashing whenever the interference happens...

    What is your longest awake

As I'm on nights tomorrow after 3 shifts off I'll be up all night to get myself back into nights mode. I was up at 6am & probably still will be come 7am tomorrow morning. 25 hrs.

    DMU v Loco Hauled

I've always noticed/admired the way a class 222 gets underway from a stop. Leaving Leicester heading north they're away like a rat up a drainpipe. Class 220/221's on the other hand seem very slow by comparison. Are the 220/221's still downrated on the power? If so then this might be the...

What cars have people got etc ...

In the family have a dull as dishwater 2007 Vauxhall Meriva 1.6 & a 2001 VW polo 1.4 with a massive 60bhp. Both have just hit 70,000 trouble free miles. Neither car has broke down in our ownership & both cost peanuts to run. The Meriva is dull & boring BUT is massive inside. I'm 6ft 4 & there's...

Smoking ban, the impact 10 years on.

Smokers on platforms think they're invisible. Should be on the spot fines but alas I've noticed especially on stations such as Leeds & Doncaster people smoke whenever they want & the staff just ignore them. I gave up smoking 4 yrs ago after 33 yrs of the habit & a warning from the doctor saying...

    Last thing you ate...

4 x toast plus bowl of cereal. Earlier 2 x cobs 2 x Pork pies 4 x bags of crisps. Before work I had roast chicken all the veg, spuds & a couple of yorkies washed down with B & J's cookie dough ice cream. Walking 15 miles around a freezer on nights needs energy That's my excuse anyway.

    Oxford Station car park

Is there an evening rate at Oxford? Up by me East Midlands trains do a £2 evening charge from 6pm onwards at stations like Loughborough, Leicester & Derby. Shame those rob dogs at London Midland can't do the same at places like Nuneaton or Tamworth

Weather related problems (6th June 2017)

I've heard rumours of an trampoline being struck by a Class 221 Virgin service just north of Leighton Buzzard around 3pm

    Toton disused class 60s

Doesn't mean they'll be going over there looking like a class 60 though. The Eurostars looked quite nice going into Kingsbury. Different story when they left in a wagon for Liverpool EMR though.

    Toton disused class 60s

If you believe Rail magazine all the 60's can be repaired if needed. As it's been said before hell will freeze over before that happens!!

    London Bridge incident (03/06)

It's a shame the BT officer wasn't armed. He's a bloody hero & deserves a medal for standing up to these so called humans. Waste of skin & fresh air!

    Accommodation suggestions and reviews

In the past when doing a couple of days in the capital I always bought tickets in advance & "popped" back home to Leicestershire at the end of the day as I preferred home comforts. However now I'm fast approaching 50 I can't be bothered with all that malarkey so can anyone recommend a good clean...

    London Bridge incident (03/06)

I can only imagine the panick as the scene unfolded but if a police officer tells me to leave a scene then I'm gone, I don't need telling twice & my phone would only come out to tell my family that I'm ok. As for people saying shut the border that'll stop em, it won't because they're already in...
