Im starting to think that those who stayed single were/are Happier, doesnt prevent those of us no longer in them still wishing we had something warm and cuddly at nights though.

Yeah mate. I have been single the last 5 years and it does allow me to do what I want when I want, I do miss having a significant other though.

5 yrs ago?
I sometimes have trouble remembering what I did 5 hrs ago!!
Weirdly though I did bump into someone who I was in a class with at school today & that was nearly 40 yrs ago.
We talked for an hour reminiscing as if it happened yesterday.

Good theme for a thread.

For me, the last 5 years have been great (in contrast to the 5 that came before):

• Proposed to my girlfriend.
• Got to the end of a secondment working in London, and decide a permanent job there isn't for me.
• Hit the reality of leaving that job and getting back to my one in Edinburgh and regretted that decision, decide to see if the option of a job was still there (it was).
• Got promoted.
• Got married
• Became an uncle.
• Moved sideways at work.
• Learned to drive (motivated by the knowledge of what was coming next).
• Had a lovely baby boy.
• (Lots of "first family xxx" - first family Christmas, first family holiday, first family trip on a train, etc)
• Became an uncle again.
• Been a best man at a wedding for the first time.

July 2012 saw me suffer a stroke at the age of 67, whilst visiting my mother in her 90s in hospital. If you are having a stroke, a hospital with a dedicated stroke ward is just the place to be.

I am fortunate to have had made a complete recovery since then, but still have to take an assortment of six different drugs in tablet form on a daily basis for what seems like evermore.
