    Clitheroe - Hellifield?

That's true. But it was done pre electrification too, albeit only on a planned basis. I've done Edinburgh-Newcastle via Carlisle with a journey time of around 3 hours. I'd expect a non stop bus to take less time than that, but I was in first class and the crew certainly kept the beer...

Penzance-Aberdeen 1S45 - Diversion (1/07/23) Other possible diversions to extend the longest Journey?

I did that reversal on both XC and GWR on a Sunday last year. Also done a reversal out of Bristol which involved heading towards Bath, stopping and reversing via Dr. Days Junction while Temple Meads was being remodeled a couple of years back.

    Clitheroe - Hellifield?

Yet Carlisle-Glasgow gets diverts via Dumfries as well as buses taking similar or less time depending on pathing. I also suspect there's little difference in Preston-Crewe on a direct bus or divert via Manchester given the known issues in the Castlefield corridor too. Likewise Crewe-Liverpool...

Penzance-Aberdeen 1S45 - Diversion (1/07/23) Other possible diversions to extend the longest Journey?

It could theoretically go via the Erewash. Not sure what the effect on mileage of a Cross City diversion would be either.

Rail station outlets face clampdown on rip-off prices

Convenience would be the only reason to revisit that one I'd say. The one in Leicester Square comes quite low on my favourites list as well.

Rail station outlets face clampdown on rip-off prices

The only one I've been in that I thought was worse is the one in Rotherham that's now closed. For context, I've been in 828 'Spoons pubs. So it's pretty bad! It was €7 for a pint after security in Cork Airport last night, spent all afternoon paying €6.70-€6.90 in the city centre, so no...

Rail station outlets face clampdown on rip-off prices

That's true. As an aside, I got a pint landside at Cork Airport yesterday as there wasn't a bus due for a while. €6. Got off the bus at the railway station and went for another pint in the bar opposite. €6. I think the airside bar is a bit more expensive, but not much. So is it just a...

Rail station outlets face clampdown on rip-off prices

Those two might be linked! On a serious note, yes of course. Although at the start of a slowdown, I suspect plenty might be reluctant to stop in case the traffic gets much worse.

Rail station outlets face clampdown on rip-off prices

Plus I suspect a significant amount of service station visitors simply park in the free* car park, have a free pee and drive off again. Obviously those toilets need cleaners who will not only need to be paid a premium compared to elsewhere, do not make money for the service station operator...

Why doesn’t the Class 720 air conditioning work?

Not when they were first introduced they weren't! Retrofitted later.

Why doesn’t the Class 720 air conditioning work?

When they were first introduced, I did Southend-Shenfield on a pair. The air con didn't work in any of the 10 carriages and it was very warm. Very cramped and uncomfortable, plus not a single bin anywhere on the stupid things except in the bogs. I've tried to avoid the awful things ever Since!

    Northern strike timetables

Pretty sure there normally is. Bus number 60 to Keighley I believe, no idea about beyond there.

RMT Strike Action Thursday 20th, Saturday 22nd and Saturday 29th July 2023

Noting your location, the Sleeper will presumably be an option to London, then NatEx to Southampton if it comes to it?

    WCML vs ECML

I remember being on an Virgin service crawling through Castlefield during the Acton Grange blockade a few years back. Someone suggested to the TM that they should keep this routing all the time, I think she was travelling from Scotland to Stockport or something. The TM's response was basically...

    Northern strike timetables

Never has done before. I'd assume, as someone with no operational knowledge of the line whatsoever, it probably isn't the easiest to train managers on either. Would be a lot of effort for relatively little gain. In that part of the world, the very limited resource is far better utilised on the...

Class 230 units training/introduction on the Borderlands line: updates

To be fair, noting your username, most of us won't be local to the line or the units. We don't properly see the failings of them. We just travel on one and enjoy (or not) the experience of doing so, assuming it turns up. If it doesn't then it's little more than a grumble and a detour via Chester...

Class 230 units training/introduction on the Borderlands line: updates

008 has had a good afternoon so far. Boarded 007 at Hawarden earlier, about 8 late. Annoyingly they held us outside Bidston for a Merseyrail service and missed 007, which started late from Bidston.
