    Sleeper comparision

In fairness to CS, the Night Riviera has far more seated accommodation than they do. And CS often fill their seats, I doubt GWR do. Which admittedly might have something to do with the comfort of them!

LNER alcohol ban - Friday 0952 Aberdeen to Newcastle

Last time I was on that train from Aberdeen on a Friday, they had security searching bags of groups on the platform at Aberdeen, and then patrolling onboard to ensure no alcohol was being consumed

    Caledonian Sleeper

They normally switch off the main lights, but the above window lights remain on, in my experience.

18 year old with Child ticket

Possibly one for a new thread, but it's something I hadn't considered before. The mention of TfL RPIs got me thinking. Someone travelling from (say) Iver would be travelling on a CrossRail train, where the signage regarding PFs will say the penalty is £80 or prosecution. But they would...

Stena Line Dublin - New Bus Service

Only times I've used a passenger gangway on Stena were at Belfast and Cairnryan. All other Irish Sea ports have used a bus transfer, including Belfast when heading to/from Birkenhead.

Avanti gateline staff at Crewe - Break of journey

Good on you, in my opinion. You've tried to do the right thing and been incorrectly refused. You've then tried to mitigate the impact of then doing the "wrong" thing. Difficult to see what else you were meant to do in that situation!

    London-Nottingham super-offpeak: Break of journey

There's no barriers. With regards to the second point, in my experience the vast majority of ECML passengers do seem to have reservations. LNER push reservations far more than any other TOC. I'd suggest making one given you can do it for free 5 minutes before departure on LNER's website.

    Ketchup or brown sauce?

Slightly off topic, but not much. I had to sit watching a friend of mine put tartare sauce on a 'Spoons breakfast once. He did it intentionally and claimed to enjoy it. I was too sleep deprived and hungover to properly clock it at first. Thoughts please? :D

    Caledonian Sleeper

Whenever I've used it is has, in my defence. I'm lead to believe that's the norm? As I said above, I've used it far less than CS.

    Caledonian Sleeper

I've used the Night Riviera far less times than CS in fairness. I'm on the Aberdeen portion tonight as it happens, so I'll report back what happens with regards to punctuality/what they say in the morning. Don't forget the NR stands at Exeter for over an hour on the Down too, so even if it...

    Caledonian Sleeper

You tick on the breakfast card if you want to be informed of disruption or not. Presumably they will wake people to tell them the extent of thr delay of they've asked to be informed. On the Night Riviera when being served breakfast I've always been told we're on time and into Penzance in X...

GWR 1st catering now weekdays (& before 7:30pm) only, and not for Paddington Oxford customers

Must be a recent change then. I did Bristol-Paddington on Saturday and got a can of coke and a snack box. Unfortunately, the staff declined to mention the snack box was the vegan option, the contents of it were absolutely vile!

    Experiences with Dover-Calais ferry

Plenty would say the biggest downside being that you have to use P&O, as neither DFDS nor Irish Ferries take foot passengers between Dover and Calais.

Two advance tickets, missed return journey due to delays.

It was absolutely no issue at all in the end. The OBM on the London train seemed like he'd have been happy for me to travel on his train without having been delayed by GWR first. I'm well aware of that, as you know, but can you really count Portway Park & Ride-Bristol-London-Thanet Parkway...

Two advance tickets, missed return journey due to delays.

The OBM on the service I'm on now agrees I'll be fine. I don't have an itinerary showing both tickets as it's Portway Park & Ride-Thanet Parkway-London St. Pancras. Yes, I do have an advance from one new station to another! :D I did buy them from Trainsplit in the same transaction though.
