Two advance tickets, missed return journey due to delays.

Not actually had this happen before, so I'm not sure what the official line is. I'm currently travelling on an advance single to Thanet Parkway. I've missed my connection out of St. Pancakes due to GWR cancelling my service from Bristol. It's a through ticket, not that it really should make a...

ECML disruption in the Darlington area (04/08)

That's impossible unless there's been a swap somewhere.

    Avanti West Coast Shop

I suspect the answer to that is "because the guard has to accept cash." Transport for Wales definitely don't accept cash for catering, for the record. And I definitely agree with your second point.

    Avanti West Coast Shop

As a slight aside, do any other TOCs than Avanti accept cash for catering? I get the feeling Grand Central might, and have no idea about Greater Anglia. Otherwise I'm pretty sure no one else does.

Merseyrail to adopt national Penalty Fare policy

Can't help but immediately notice their claims of using an off peak ticket at "peak time" being a PF offence. That's not the case nationally, is it?

    Avanti West Coast Shop

I'm in a pub in Huddersfield which could only take cash when I walked it. So I went and got some, ordered my pint and paid in cash and the card readers suddenly started working again as soon as the next person making a run to the cash machine came back. So it can happen anywhere, and certainly...

Use of split tickets in the event of last-minute pick up only at Reading

I was on a train a few years back with split tickets at an intermediate station, which due to late running we diverted to go a completely different route. I questioned it with the RPI onboard, as he'd told me to change, thinking I was actually travelling to the split point. I showed all of my...

Late Night/Early Morning TfW Services & Warrington Bank Quay

It's solely down to Bank Quay not being staffed. Frodsham, Helsby, Runcorn East ect, would all be affected if the service were diverted.

    Iarnród Éireann service frequencies

I've not had the displeasure of one from Rosslare yet, but I have from Wexford. And several hops between the intermediate stations too. The timetable of the ferries either has changed quite recently, or is about to imminently. The train times on either side haven't. It used to work really well...

Lumo overspeed incident at Peterborough (17/04/2022)

I was on a Lumo train the other day and at least two carriages had a cover over the windowless seats at the ends of the carriage and the seats piled high with luggage. In another carriage, there was no cover but the seats were being used for the same purpose. I'd hope in due course those seats...

    Iarnród Éireann service frequencies

The 17:30 ex Dublin is booked a 29000. Used it several times and only ever had a 4 car 29000 on it. It then stays in Rosslare and does the first Rosslare-Dublin which continues to Dundalk. I popped over to do the new Gorey evening service and got a 29000 on that. Everything else should be a...

    Chinese visitor penalty-fared on Thameslink

Somewhere that Gatwick Airport (despite the name) and Potters Bar aren't! Or, for that matter, Slough and Dorking if you happen to be travelling on a bus. But yes, generally speaking obviously this is the case. The fact that there are large signs at Brighton, to give just one example, stating...

LNER train hitting a deer (04/07)

I was on a 158 up there once in the accessible toilet. Heard a bloody loud bang from in-between the carriages and a fair bit of rattling underneath us. In hindsight I'd have been justified in pulling the red lever. Finished and left, to see many passengers in the carriage looking outside with...

    Seated rail staff, passengers standing

Been on plenty of trains where people have been choosing to stand. Indeed I'm on one right now. Surely no one in that circumstance would begrudge a member of staff taking a seat?

    Clitheroe - Hellifield?

You mean in the way they publicly did on Twitter with Avanti after refusing carriage of passengers from Glasgow diverted due to a fatality recently?

    Clitheroe - Hellifield?

As do I. Admittedly journey time is much less of a consideration, but I know the sleepers have ran via the Durham Coast in the Serco era. Likely when Lamington collapses I suspect. Cost of that can't have been cheap with having to arrange a diesel loco to take over for the diversion from the...
