GPS needs a clear sky view. Sat in a tin box it will only see a few satellites. Some buildings are also effective radio black holes. My house has thick stone walls and no radio (Mobile, VHF)radio gets inside.
so accurate speed by GPS in a train is difficult. balancing your phone on the...
We keep adding mass to vehicles (rail and road). We seem to have lost sight of Newtons second law - F=ma. Force = mass times acceleration.
Add mass and you have to add force t=for acceleration to be constant.
What will a BEMU with transformer and pantograph, and also enough batteries to do...
He is better on technical stuff. When he goes off on one on the intricacies of franchising then I am afraid I turn off (and leave the article unread, often)
I am still struggling to understand why a blue line painted on the pavement would not fix much of the problem. Those with walking issues, or those with tons of luggage, or when its raining sideways, there are taxis.
In the 60's in Leeds, West Yorkshire had their own stops. They were generally every other Leeds City Transport (LCT) stop. I also believe that they charged a minimum fare from Vicar Lane. So on the 36 (to Harrogate bus) the minimum fare was to Queens Arms, just North of Chapel Allerton. If...
So how would Settle - Carlisle work? You have to move abaout 40 tonnes up from Settle to Ais Gill. Battery will be a bit discharged having worked from Skipton and made maybe 3 stops. How much battery would you need to drag the train up the long drag?
And all the stations are in well...
There is this section in the 1936 West Yorkshire Road car bus timetable listing in great detail where their buses stopped in Leeds and Bradford.

Long sea fronts are obvious. Like blackpool, as you say. And also Kusttram on the Belgian coast. But most linear seaside areas have existing heavy rail close by so maybe not.
A coast tram centered on Brighton might work.
Having luggage trolleys you can take between the stations would help. Maybe ones that walkers can lean on. (Missus finds supermarket trolleys help when her hip gives her gyp.) Pay with credit card and take authorisation for a lump of cash in case the trolley goes missing.
Class 101 for me. Common round Leeds so I used them a lot. And as you say, the view from the front.
But HST were the iconic trains of the 70's, and saved Inter City travel in the UK
Today. a 350. Nice comfy 'proper' trains.
Hmm. I am working on a project with staff in Ukraine, Netherlands and 2 locations in the UK, plus those who WFH. We have never met. Its all by email, shared online stuff and teams. I dont see how the company would ever pay for me to travel to any of the locations.
didnt BR use 'originating revenue' to decide a lines income? dodgy accounting cos holiday areas would have little originating revenue but many passengers would go there with return tickets.
Its OK on a sunny day. But will be a pain when its raining sideways.
I think it needs a dedicated shuttle bus from Euston Station bus station to a stop just north of the Great Northern Hotel
