    Trolleybuses

A lot cheaper than a tram. No digging up the road. But you need 2 wires above the track. And 'points' in the overhed where there was a split so the trolley went the right route. The driver had to ensure he stayed on about the right path. But his pic shows that as the trolleypoles could pivot...

London Liverpool Street to Watford Junction

Page from May 1978 timetable showing 3 an hour Watford - Broad St and 3 an hour Watford - Euston. No indication there were any through trains to Broad St from anywhere. But I think jfollows post above (#54) is talking about an earlier time.

    Personal Nostalgia

Watching shunting in Scunthorpe yard from the long concrete bridge. Must have been 5 or less. Think they had Dowty retarders. I did a few months at Frodingham Infants school next to the railway before we moved away in 1961. Living by the S&C around 1980 watching cl 40/45/46 struggling with...

Odd stations on station departure sheets

I think around 1980 they changed the departure posters on stations to not list departures chronologically, but to have an alphabetical list of stations and times of trains to them But some of the stations listed were a bit odd. Lancaster has, for some reason, Lympstone Commando. And quite a few...

Future of bus services after Covid support withdrawn

if the buses become that infrequent they will become even more irrelevant to many people. Trains and buses, we need to get leisure travellers back somehow. maybe when they scrap masks it will be better.

Future of bus services after Covid support withdrawn

I have been on some seriously empty buses and trains recently. We need a massive rethink on public transport. Or it will wither and die.

The next UK HSR (High Speed Rail) project?

I think an east coast main line diversion would be the most likely. Maybe the Welwyn bottleneck. A green field route so no complications of changing an existing railway. Maybe one round Doncaster to avoid all the conflicting movements.
