Saving money by using non-obvious routes - is this legally / morally OK?

My argument for a long time has been, it is legally allowed for train operating companies to increase the regulated ticket prices at popular stations, whilst increasing ing reglated ticket prices at at a lower rate for popular ones. The effect is that on average ticket prices rise by the agreed...

[Trivia] How many stations still have wooden platforms?

Of course, I'd forgot about Brighton.

[Trivia] How many stations still have wooden platforms?

I didn't realise they were building wooden platforms as late as the 1980s.

[Trivia] How many stations still have wooden platforms?

A colleague shared a news report that Berrylands station is due to temporarily close next year. https://www.ianvisits.co.uk/articles/berrylands-station-wood-platform-repairs-to-close-the-station-for-several-months-80581/ It got me wondering, how many other stations have wooden platforms...

The previous thread mentioned Woking and if it hadn't, I was going to mentioned it here.

GWML - signal fault at Twyford (21 April)

I see there were quite a few cancellations on that line but unlike Bedwyn, one could at least get a train in both directions.

GWML - signal fault at Twyford (21 April)

Only one train on the Noerh Downs Line to Gatwick Airport canxelled this morning and obviously the return. I assume this was due to staff starting their shift on this line, so the issues on the other line didn't impact. 1745323172 I see the 7:53 from Bedwyn to Paignton has the stop removed...

GWML - signal fault at Twyford (21 April)

Thanks for confirming that. That really did deserve a dosruption notice then, but appreciate if their isn't enough staff, they might not have time. I did also wonder if the traincrew interworked off the mainline.

False advertising EMR first class on Trainline?

Indeed and I don't think Adam was suggesting otherwise, as the contract is with Trainline. Trainline are also blound by advertising rules

False advertising EMR first class on Trainline?

Could one not complain to the Advertising Standards Agency, assuming you have all the information they need?

GWML - signal fault at Twyford (21 April)

That is good. The 22:30 is also starting short from Redhill. There wasn't posted online until after the seevuce rhat makes it up departed Guildford 25 minutes late. It was either in-between there and Gomshall or after Gomshall. This one is delayed due to a fault with the signalling system. I...

GWML - signal fault at Twyford (21 April)

In times of disruption like this, i wonder how many unanswered posts, formerly known as tweets, lead in the GWR_help system, which they use to manage their X, formerlly known as Twitter, account. No point in answer them tomorrow obviously, but I'm sure plenty of people forget or don't read the...

GWML - signal fault at Twyford (21 April)

The Bedwyn is even worse. At least the 21:30 from Gatwick Airport looks fairly certain to be running now. They also contact offer any advice online as it is gone 19:00. It's like the old days when people had to speak to staff at stations or phone up. There is the information help points but I...

GWML - signal fault at Twyford (21 April)

That's good. The BBC aren't covering it, but it is a bank holiday and I appreciate they would have less staff working on a bank Holiday. At least I assume they do.

Passengers stranded after being let off train for fresh air

Thanks, that makes sense. I just wish there was a way of passengers know this so they can decide which train to catch. It might be quiet a niche request to be fair.

GWML - signal fault at Twyford (21 April)

Is this being reported in the national press at all or is the fact its a bank Holiday have an impact? One thing I do know, it is affecting trains on the North Downs Line and GWR have no made no comment. They are correctly updating the journey planners with the cancellations at least. It isn't...

RMT order members not to load railcard discounts?

Perhaps The Telegraph could write a story about them not doing it. I won't hold my breath. More broadly though, it is a postcode lottery as to where one can get a discount loaded.

Passengers stranded after being let off train for fresh air

This happened to me recently. I had some headphones on but nothing playing through them. I got to the platform, having changed trains, and saw orange flashing door lights. I pressed them and the doors did not reopen. Train then departed. I then got the next train. 1745185360 I once missed my...

Passengers stranded after being let off train for fresh air

You can of course press the door open button to reopen them. Or at least that works before the guard has blown the whistle for the train to depart. I don't think the sound is any different between the two types of door closing sequences, though.

Weird Places for Services to Terminate

There are 20:22 and 22:36 Reading to Shalford services Monday to Friday. On Saturday it's just the 22:35 The return working Monday to Friday is just the 21:30 as the 23:27 Monday to Firday (22:26 on Saturday) runs as empty coaching stock. So it isn't an even service, either. From the May...
