    Russia invades Ukraine

Case in point Donald Trump. Mentally unbalanced and paranoid, but he went a full term as president without ordering a nuclear strike.

    Russia invades Ukraine

I wonder what percentage of the Russians fighting are conscripts?

    Russia invades Ukraine

The RT website has been down most of the day. Anonymous are behind it. So none of us get to see the futile attempts at defending the indefensible.

    Russia invades Ukraine

Unfortunately the exit of Putin would not lead to President Navalny, nice as that would be. Putin has tentacles right across Russian politics. The "consequences" line from Putin is equal to the Trumpian "Fire and Fury" speech.

    Russia invades Ukraine

If you'd have asked me this yesterday I'd have agreed. But it turns out, unlike with Covid, the media were right this time.

    Russia invades Ukraine

Another couple of things to consider... 1. Kim Jong Un is a paranoid raving lunatic with nuclear weapons which could reach the US. But he has never tried to use them. Putin is a figure of calm and predictability compared to Kim. 2. Putin wants to redraw the borders to a pre 1917 Greater...

    Russia invades Ukraine

I don't foresee RT being on our screens for much longer. Wouldn't be surprised if the website is blocked in the UK as well.

    Russia invades Ukraine

Poland is in NATO though. Ukraine isn't, so was considered by Putin as low hanging fruit. Same for Georgia.

    Russia invades Ukraine

I think there's an element of truth in comments that Putin has somewhat lost a grip of reality. Sky News were speculating that two years of near isolation of a Covid-paranoid Putin had taken its toll on his decision making abilities, and he has become Ukraine obsessed.

China vs Taiwan and other potential invasions/conflicts of concern (previously included Russia & Ukraine)

Even Putin doesn't lay claim to all of Ukraine. The bits to the west of the Dnieper river he has previously said should return to Poland. What we could end up seeing is a divided Ukraine.

China vs Taiwan and other potential invasions/conflicts of concern (previously included Russia & Ukraine)

This is far more Putin's style, rather than raining the bombs on Kiev. Divide and rule. The Russian narrative is never of aggression, but to "protect their citizens". I said from the start that they would start overtly doing what they've already covertly been doing since 2014. Everyone knows...

China vs Taiwan and other potential invasions/conflicts of concern (previously included Russia & Ukraine)

Well that was 45 minutes of stuff we kind of already knew. He was careful not to overtly threaten Ukraine, but at the same time did a thorough job of undermining it as a state. It's also interesting where he drew a line. He claimed, quite outlandishly, that Ukraine was seeking to acquire nuclear...

China vs Taiwan and other potential invasions/conflicts of concern (previously included Russia & Ukraine)

There has been talk of the "Finlandisation" of Ukraine. I'd say Putin's aim is "Belarusation" - a puppet regime in place, with the strings being pulled in Moscow. I don't think he'd go as far as annexation.

China vs Taiwan and other potential invasions/conflicts of concern (previously included Russia & Ukraine)

Putin is clearly feeling like he's being backed in to a corner. The level of silly stories on RT has gone up in the last day. Normally RT is a reasonable source of the Russian view if you sort through the propaganda, but today is almost exclusively fake news. The story about the border post...

China vs Taiwan and other potential invasions/conflicts of concern (previously included Russia & Ukraine)

I think that a lot of Western pundits make the mistake of assuming Putin thinks like a Western leader. He certainly doesn't, and therefore it's near impossible to second guess what he will do. Kremlinology is a science I can't even begin to understand.

China vs Taiwan and other potential invasions/conflicts of concern (previously included Russia & Ukraine)

Hopefully the well trodden path of brinkmanship leading to a dose of realpolitik will dial down the tensions, and also blunt the propaganda war.

China vs Taiwan and other potential invasions/conflicts of concern (previously included Russia & Ukraine)

It's politically not palatable for the US to send troops in. The electorate, fresh from seeing what happened in Afghanistan, will see it as another endless foreign war where countless US soldiers will die for no discernible benefit. Throughout this information war, all the NATO countries have...

China vs Taiwan and other potential invasions/conflicts of concern (previously included Russia & Ukraine)

We are in the midst of an information war. RT, Putin's spokesman etc are talking a lot of garbage. Similarly the BBC, Daily Telegraph, Joe Biden etc are also talking a lot of garbage. We really have no idea what's actually going on on the borders of Ukraine. Which is how Putin wants it to be.

Disruption to services - Storm Dudley & Storm Eunice

That was when the Hall of Records was mysteriously blown away. (c. The Simpsons) SWR have announced that Portsmouth Harbour and Ryde Pier Head stations will be closed.
