    Specified train & connections meaning

Yes, I absolutely agree with this. Where I work everyone has to spend at least a week working at the front-end. Many of the ‘old stagers’ like me started at the sharp end years ago and enjoy the challenge of showing the youngsters that we can still cut it. Some of my colleagues absolutely hate...

Railcard discounts to be reduced to 33.4%

I have to agree with this. I travelled to Sheffield for a day trip last Saturday and I would always use the train for such a trip - but fares (even with my extensive knowledge) were £80+). I am very fortunate to have An electric company car. Stevenage to Sheffield return is just within the...

    Specified train & connections meaning

This doesn’t mean that what is in iKB should be swept away. The GTR easement is extremely sensible. As I said to a GTR manager years ago - why shouldn’t someone travelling on an Advance ticket from Bristol to Stevenage be able to take an earlier connecting train from St Pancras to Stevenage...

    Replacing lost Oyster card

I had my Oyster card stolen in Paris a couple of years ago. A new card costs £7 (ouch!) You can buy it at Paddington Underground station and you’ll need to add some credit to it. You should be able to get the discount applied at any Underground station. Report the old card as lost through the...

    ECML Disruption - 01/09

We’re on the move again now, about to join the main line. 1725203344 Terminating at Finsbury Park as Kings Cross is ‘full’.

Why is it so hard to buy an excess?

sounds like a very poor reply from Chiltern. I hope you’re escalating it with them.

    ECML Disruption - 01/09

I’m caught up in this. The train I’m on has been diverted via the Hertford Loop which normally adds about 15 minutes to the journey. We’re already 30 minutes down and only at Hertford.

Railcard discounts to be reduced to 33.4%

The cost of my railcard discounted Travelcard at the weekend increases by 1% as a result of this. Many will say not an issue, in the grand scheme of things, but on top of the sneaky price increases the train companies impose it all adds up. For example: 3% additional increase on Travelcards...

    Railcard renewal - best options?

Given the rumours of price increases (although apparently not for the next year…) I’d go for a 3 year railcard. Trainsplit sells railcards and I’ve found their app very reliable. And in the unlikely event of any issues I’m sure you’d be able to get a very speedy resolution from people in the...

    Specified train & connections meaning

Northern could learn a thing or two from GTR on this. GTR allow any train to be used where they are the connecting service into another operators service. EG, ‘LNER & Connections’, ‘AP Slough’, etc. They also offer their own Advance fares which are train specific that do need to be used on the...

    Travelcard renewal

You could buy a Zones 1-5 Travelcard from a retailer that offers incentives. LNER often offer cash back to AMEX cardholders, there were some that offered Nectar points, I don’t know if any still do. The season ticket would be issued on a smartcard and would work in the same way as your existing...

    Specified train & connections meaning

But if LNER get their way the Off Peak Single will be abolished leaving just Advance Fares, 70-Minute Flex and Anytime.

Railcard discounts to be reduced to 33.4%

The main fares increase usually takes place in January each year (although the last few years implementation has been delayed until March). There are also fares revisions in May and September, so it looks as though Greater Anglia are increasing some of their fares.

    Permitted routes Nuneaton to Wolverhampton

Absolutely! My concern is that when TOCs collaborate on things like fares there is usually only one result, passengers end up paying more. Nationalised operators so not fill me with confidence when it comes to fares, you only have to look at what is happening on LNER to see this.

Fort William to London Euston Saturday 3rd May 2025

If a Scotrail train is delayed causing you to miss your Lumo train then you are entitled to catch the next Lumo train. If this would cuase a delay of more than 60 minutes (which it would) then Scotrail would be obliged to re-route you under the Passenger Rights and Obligations Legislation.

    Fare Prosecution Letter

If you've paid the amount due that should be the end of the matter. It's possible that GA might've written a chase letter in the last few days that will be delivered next week but I think it is a good idea to send them a polite note explaining what has happened. You might want to consider...

Letter advice - Greater Anglia short faring

Not that it matters now, but railway staff have no right to take passengers phones and search through an app. They can ask to look at the phone, but all a passenger is legally required to do is give their name and address and show the ticket for the journey they are making at the time. I'm...

    Elizabeth line with cross-London ticket

Officially you're allowed to take any appropriate route between Euston and Paddington. Euston to Tottenham Court Road and then Elizabeth Line to Paddington is undisputably appropriate. Going via Liverpool Street less so, although it's highly unlikely to be an issue.
