Discrepancy between bus company timetable and bustimes.org data: Salisbury Reds route 87

Thank you all - that must be it! I can see it now on the Stagecoach page. Good! Now to book some accommodation in case of train strikes...

Discrepancy between bus company timetable and bustimes.org data: Salisbury Reds route 87

Hi all, I'm looking at the timetable for Saturday 25th June for the Salisbury Reds route 87 - a fairly irregular Salisbury–Salisbury service via Pitton, Winterslow and various Wiltshire villages. As it stands today, the Salisbury Reds website is showing a PDF timetable valid from March 2022...

Trivia: Stations where passengers headed for a completely different destination end up on a regular basis

I have in my collection a recent travel ticket from Manchester to Worle, plus an accompanying Excess ticket to Wool. The passenger apparently wanted to go to Wool but the clerk misheard!

Great Ticket Sale courtesy of Grant Shapps

LNER Newcastle-London Kings Cross £19.80 Advance single secured for early evening on Monday 9th May. No joy with journeys to Newcastle on Thursday 5th, though. Still makes my trip cheaper than expected!

    9D validity restriction

Thanks all; LNER live chat on Facebook replied very quickly, I must say, and confirmed no plans to reinstate but that the website would be updated if they are reinstated. Thanks for the social media suggestion - I hadn't thought of that!

    9D validity restriction

Hi all, Possibly an unanswerable question...! I can see that the evening time restrictions on Super Off-Peak Returns with a 9D code have apparently been lifted "until further notice" on Fridays on departures from London Kings Cross and Stevenage. (Normally these tickets would be barred...

    Memories of the year 2000.

This is where collecting tickets helps ... I have a record to hand of every journey I took in 2000  First year at university (Warwick), so Coventry and Canley were my local stations, or Leamington Spa if I got the bus. Roughly in date order: a random trip to Nuneaton; a day trip to...

Is handing in a lost ticket of any use to the owner...?

I've handed in dropped tickets, Railcards and indeed credit cards on several occasions. I recall a Brighton-Birmingham at Brighton on one occasion. Several times, an announcement has been made almost immediately over the loudspeakers requesting the holder of such-and-such ticket to present...

Route +VIA MANCHESTER: very quick question

Thanks both. That's a shame ... back to Plan A via Manchester city centre!

Route +VIA MANCHESTER: very quick question

That's an interesting possibility! Would Euston-Warrington-Todmorden be valid with a +VIA MANCHESTER ticket? I can't check the routeing guide at the moment. It seems like it should be, logically...

Route +VIA MANCHESTER: very quick question

Thanks for confirming - it will be the walk for me!

Route +VIA MANCHESTER: very quick question

Just a quick question please, to which I'm almost certain the answer is "No", but I'd better just check :) Is a ticket routed +VIA MANCHESTER valid on Metrolink in the City Zone? Specifically for a Hove-Todmorden ticket for use between Picc and Vic? Cheers!

A 1987 Rail Ranger - the "Lincoln (or Lincolnshire) Poacher"

Thanks for that info; that's very useful.

What does "AP" mean on a ticket?

Re. Alistairlees' comment on dates: the earliest ticket in my collection showing an AP routeing is dated June 1993 (Stowmarket to Glasgow BR route AP BERWICK, for those interested!). Dare I say it, I've even got a handful routed AP ANY PERMITTED

A 1987 Rail Ranger - the "Lincoln (or Lincolnshire) Poacher"

Thanks all. Doncaster/Sheffield/Nottingham–Lincoln certainly seems plausible. A good point about the name: "Rover" usually indicated some sort of additional validity beyond rail (e.g. acceptance on certain buses) as opposed to Ranger. I have only ever seen OFFPK RANGR as a ticket type on...

A 1987 Rail Ranger - the "Lincoln (or Lincolnshire) Poacher"

Bit of a long shot given the passage of time, but does anybody have any info on a Day Ranger ticket called the Lincoln or Lincolnshire Poacher which was around in 1987? A ticket (illustrated) has come my way and I haven't been able to find out anything about it. It is an APTIS issue from...

Trivia: Station Names that differ by one letter (or near offer)

Hale and Hayle … same pronunciation as well, as a bonus! (Over in Germany, there are stations called "Aha" and "Ahaus", which although two letters different are particularly bizarre names...!)

Are bus services now back to normal (i.e. at pre-Covid levels of service)?

For a while now, Brighton and Hove Bus Company have been stating the percentage of "standard services" operating. Recently it has been edging upwards, from 80% to the oddly specific 84%, and now (since 30 August) 90%. I can't remember the earlier percentages. Regarding school buses, "We are...

Brighton to Hove and...that's it! Is this the reason?

During that period in the 2000s (and possibly 1990s) when East Coastway<>West Coastway services ran, I think the usual working was Seaford<>West Worthing (all stations), but a few certainly worked beyond there to Littlehampton/Portsmouth.

Do tickets to the IOW include the ferry?

How bizarre! I had a look on Brfares.com, using High Wycombe-Ryde Esplanade, and according to the expert mode there is a whole swathe of stations just outside the London Zones to the west, north and east which don't have any walk-up fares! http://www.brfares.com/#expert?orig=HWY&dest=RYD I...
