Can't overdistance excess be bought beforehand?!

Yes, I think you have made the same mistake again. As has been said before, live your life a little slower and you'll probably find it far more relaxing and enjoyable. Pretty much all of your posts recently have this pattern. Calm down, your heart will probably appreciate it.

Advice on what new car to buy.

Most when they've been run into the ground (which is actually very difficult), it'll be that they're tatty inside and maybe a few dents. The ones that aren't worth fixing will have been scrapped. Find a privately owned one... I'd go for a 10-15 year old second hand car, one lovingly treated...

Merseyrail Penalty Fare - No facility to purchase

To decide if someone should receive a penalty notice or be prosecuted? Yes, of course I do. We have a judicial system for a reason, and as I said the railway shows little ability to use the additional powers it has with any consistency, so it's high time those powers were removed from it.

Advice on what new car to buy.

Skoda Octavias are also very reliable "old fashioned" saloon style cars. There's a reason they're very popular with taxi and private hire companies.

Coventry to Southampton - No "Any Permitted Route" fares?

Sometimes I think these things are down to incompetence more than anything else. This week's TFW ticketing incompetence: there is no day return between Llandudno Junction and Chester, just a period. But there is a day return between Llandudno Junction and Wrexham, a station further.

Merseyrail Penalty Fare - No facility to purchase

You can't, and that's why I don't want anyone working for on behalf of the railway deciding. It's been proved time and time again the railway is not competent to do that with any confidence of reliability or predictability.

Coventry to Southampton - No "Any Permitted Route" fares?

That's a journey between a pair of stations. There will be other tickets between different pairs of stations where off-peak tickets are valid on the same train. Restrictions are tied to tickets, not trains.

Coventry to Southampton - No "Any Permitted Route" fares?

That isn't a restriction which is possible, surely? Time restrictions are based on journeys between a station pair. There's no such thing as a peak or off peak *train*, although some TOCs would like you to think so.

    Liverpool - London Easter Monday

A crass and unuseful response which shows a lack of understanding. There are 5 divisions of football in England which could potentially involve travelling from Merseyside to the south east, i.e. they're nationwide. On Easter Monday at 3pm, this will be a lower league fixture. TV? Dear me.

Staff Assault at Formby Railway Station

And as everyone knows, no posh person's kid has ever tried to rebel against their inherent poshness. And nobody has ever witnessed posh people being anti-social. In fact we all rejoice if we're in a pub and a group of youngsters come in proudly announcing they're from Blah University's rugby...

Are Class 700’s really that bad?

Thank you, you beat me to asking similar. It surely can't be possible. Everyone is different and of a different size.

How can public transport cut energy use

Yes, that magic electricity. Dear me.

    Post Covid Passenger Rebound

Well, as long as the connections to London are excellent, the railway, or it seems many who work for it seem to be concerned, everything is fine.

Train Driver in hospital after yobs hurl brick through windscreen (04/02)

Terrible. And I'm currently on a train where the guard got back on after a stop and apologised for taking time, saying the train had been hit by a brick. Never experienced that before, I know it happens but that was quite surprising.

Would missing a train owing to a lengthy queue at a booking office qualify for delay repay?

Bizarre comment. I'm not a charity either. Why should I be delayed by a police officer's presence?

Cancellation of second train of split ticket journey, Advance tickets

So just have a single service that handles claims. The railway knows who you bought the ticket from. Make it a condition of being an "accredited retailer,," to use a phrase often used on here, to direct all claims to this service, or whoever it should be handled by in the absence of one.

Would missing a train owing to a lengthy queue at a booking office qualify for delay repay?

How about where a ticket office won't sell you a ticket? Today's TFW fun: I hold a season ticket between station A and C. A has no trains today. I travel to intermediate station B. I want to travel to station D outside my ticket's validity, so ask for a B to D return at the ticket office...

    Post Covid Passenger Rebound

Quite. "He knows the cost of everything and the value of nothing."

    Post Covid Passenger Rebound

Only of course it can be sold and is, otherwise there would never be any trains with standing room only. That's the primary reason analogies with airlines are rarely useful.
