Urinals in train toilets - an idea ?

Indeed. Instead of storing waste in tanks, we could just discharge it at the earliest opportunity, as we used to. OK, toilets flushing onto tracks aren't going to come back, but a system that doesn't rely on depots and pipes and staff and stabling shouldn't be out of the realms of possibility...

Trivia: cathedrals, abbeys and castles which can be seen from trains

Also in North Wales, Gwrych Castle. More a castellated mansion than a "real" castle, but huge and a far better view of it from the train than Conwy Castle. Famous these days for being the "castle" used for I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here on TV. 1651335393 Hmm, where can you see it from the...

Urinals in train toilets - an idea ?

Lots of counties have lots of things that we don't have. We have things that other countries would consider silly. "But so and so does it" isn't really a good argument for introducing something.

    Beggars Outside Cardiff Central.

A problem is how you "deal" with it. It's increasingly politically and socially unacceptable to use the Vagrancy Act. How would you suggest it is dealt with? 1651330105 Quite. Wales imports a not insignificant proportion of its homeless population, a cynic could suggest this is a deliberate...

    Loco turnaround at Llandudno

I was surprised to see that one of today's charter trains to Llandudno wasn't top and tailed - I'd assumed that loco turnaround would either have been removed or long out of service by now. I rarely visit the station these days so may well be wrong, and presumably am, unless the train will be...

Bristol to Penarth day return - Break of Journey at Cardiff?

But as was mentioned in the post you're replying to, the gates at Chester appear to accept anything that's valid to or from a station along North Wales, despite off-peak tickets (generally the only tickets on that route!) having a no break of Journey restriction on them. Personally I never put...

Urinals in train toilets - an idea ?

Train urinals is a silly idea, but "waterless" urinals do exist.

Avanti West Coast Rolling Stock Updates

If it's a shame because of carbon emissions, apparently in the year before Covid electric trains caused more than diesel trains.

    Blackpool - London - 3rd OAO attempt

There's loads of rolling stock available. All the stock that's not being used by the TOCs with their reduced timetables.

Great Ticket Sale courtesy of Grant Shapps

Despite saying they're not part of this, Transport for Wales are actually taking part.

    TfW Overcrowding

The very fast workaround was for the guard to use the external door releases and then use a vestibule panel to close them as normal. The train was on time. What's the very slow workaround?

Missed Lumo due to other operator delay - what's supposed to happen?

Yes, this is a definite problem. Staff who treat passengers differently depending on the ticket they hold (not who it was sold by, that could well be the company they work for) Quite why those that care so much has always been beyond me. It's not your train.

    TfW Overcrowding

Codswallop. How are you suggesting someone could use one on a moving train?
  14. M

    .

That, as you'll well know, is the actual issue here.

    TfW Overcrowding

I worded that poorly. The guard opened the doors, not the passengers. I was a passenger on board wondering if they could actually make it to do local door release and trying to reassure others this was normal and to stay put. Then, "ah, here they are!" - external door release. Sensible...

    TfW Overcrowding

Absolutely. But someone will be along shortly to tell us how that's impossible, despite TFW regularly running to Crewe direct for the past two years. Small steps though, let's let them actually run through Chester more than a couple of times a day first. I'm sorry for being so scathing, but...

    TfW Overcrowding

Yes, this appears to be what the TFW staff on here want you to think still happens, and ignore that Llandudno - Manchester has been two or three trains a day at most for a long time now. I don't understand why they're so defensive. I've worked for many companies and public sector organisations...

    TfW Overcrowding

The evening Cardiff - Holyhead Mk4. Not scheduled to stop, I believe, between Chester and Rhyl. Last week it didn't stop at Colwyn Bay, fast to Llandudno Junction. Perhaps TFW are planning more non-stop services, another great one to see was a 197 eastbound fast through Rhyl with no warning on...

    Will HS2 require premium fares?

Not a driver or a more rural person then, I'm guessing? I completely expect the motorways (the HS rail links, if you will) to be far higher quality than my local roads. We're paying for all of them after all, just like HS2. Just like all the "A" roads where yes, you may well have to walk in...

National Rail cycling by train app?

Sigh. I didn't say anything about wanting complexity or obscurity. My point is absolutely nothing to do with that, nor any kind of luddite opinion on apps, rather everything to do with how easing access to a (very) scarce resource would actually work. Your proposal would only have any chance...
