I am not sure if this counts- Uckfield new station (opened in 1991 north of the level crossing) was built on the site of the old down line. This was built after the line was singled and the old station south of the level crossing was closed.

What lines, closed either by Beeching, or later, in the 70's would be viable now, if they had remained open?

I was recently given the newly published book " Uckfield's Railway- Truimph and Tragedy by Brian Hart" which exposes the truth behind the closure of the line between Uckfield- Lewes. It proved the combined pressure by East Sussex and Department of Transport wanting the line closed to build the...

What lines, closed either by Beeching, or later, in the 70's would be viable now, if they had remained open?

I agree that East Grinstead to Three Bridges should also have been kept. Grange Road station serving Crawley Down has greatly expanded since closure. Housing development has now covered the former trackbed through the village/town. Rowfant station would remain closed is it was situated in an...

    Staff Travel Stripped after Mistake.

As a retired railwayman as far as I can see it....... A big no no...You must not use a railway staff card belonging to someone else. It is not been stated that the staff concerned was a "protected" or "non-protected" staff for privilege staff travel. Since 1996 "non protected" staff joining TOCs...

Most interesting, mismatched, disjointed hotchpotch of a station on the network?

On my first visit to Edinburgh Waverley I found the platform numbers confusing and then suddenly worked out that they are numbered clockwise so I imagine that 1 is 1200 on the clockface, 2 is equivalent to 2 mins past 1202 etc to 20 which is 1259.on the clockface. It is my way of remembering but...

Until 1967 the RHDR used to meet BR at New Romney. If the Bluebell Railway reopen the Ardingly line then they would have a main line connection at Horsted Keynes.
