    Go South Coast

Quick question on behalf of my bus enthusiast son (he's 11, I'll let him join the forum when he's a bit older): The last couple of mornings the 07:05 Morebus X3 off Ringwood towards Salisbury has been a single decker. This is unusual for this route. Is it a long term operational decision, as...

    Fuel Price Scaremongering

Sky News were at it today, telling people to only make necessary journeys. This is nonsense. Filled up today, because I was on was the red line, Morrisons, 132.9. Only 2p per litre more than this time last week, and no queue. There's no fuel shortage. Our fuel does not come from the Gulf...

    Do you have any phobias?

I have two: Ophidiophobia (fear of snakes), and a fear of Morris Dancers (yes really). So visits to reptile centres and folk festivals are off the agenda for me. Also metathesiophobia or neophobia tends to afflict quite a few in the rail enthusiast community!

    Budget hotels discussion

I've been staying at the Torquay Travelodge for work. 25 quid a night. Hotel is clean enough, and it has a "restaurant" that'll get you an acceptable meal. They have a chargeable car park, but you can simply park.on the road outside for free, unrestricted. However, last week I had an appalling...

    Fuel Price Scaremongering

There does seem to be some profiteering going on. Some fuel stations on major routes have increased by 10-15p a litre this week. Yet I filled up at Sainsbury's yesterday for 129.9 (unleaded), unchanged all week. Doesn't help that some local rags (yes Newsquest, I'm looking at you) are reporting...

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

So with no booked work from next week for the two 458/5s, I presume these will be the go-to reserve units for a while, and the 455s will finally be finished with?

SWR outgoing Metro fleet withdrawals (complete)

It is encouraging (if that's the right word) to see that it's not broken 701s that are being backfilled, indeed quite the opposite. With the rollout of more 701s I do wonder if a temporary halt should be called to replacing inner suburban 450 diagrams in favour of replacing some 458/4 diagrams...

Railway 200 : 'Inspiration' touring train

It'd be nice if they parked it up somewhere like Shildon and integrated it into the museum complex.

Deansgate station changed to ‘Olivia Deansgate’

There's always "Bernard Manningtree" if some of the elders are feeling left out.

Railway 200 : 'Inspiration' touring train

Visited last Sunday at Salisbury. Very worthwhile, enthusiastic people running it.

SWR outgoing Metro fleet withdrawals (complete)

There must be a rapidly diminishing amount of drivers who still sign 455s?

SWR outgoing Metro fleet withdrawals (complete)

Slightly lost track. is 458535 still at Wimbledon, or has it gone to Long Mardton?

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

Perhaps SETG are going to preserve it ;)

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

Is there enough depot space on the SWR network to stable these new units without sending off others? I was under the impression that the 458/4s would have to start being sent away before all the 701s could be accommodated

    Class 175s to GWR

Are there still people within GWR who worked on the Class 180s at OOC? From what I remember they were "Adelante Whisperers" and managed to get them working well. Could this knowledge be passed on to Laira for the 175s?

Introduction of European Entry-Exit Scheme (EES)

Just been through Portsmouth, Caen (Ouistreham), Dieppe and Newhaven this week. Passport stamped, no sign of any infrastructure for EES.

How far in advance is advance?

I will have started the 25 minute walk to the station before the cutoff, so I'll know for certain, short of getting run over on the way, which train I'm getting.

How far in advance is advance?

Thanks. It would be a single as I stay a couple of nights away at a time for work.

How far in advance is advance?

I'm looking at some commuting options for work (Sailsbury-Pinhoe) as I'm sick of driving. Looking at National Rail for today just to see prices I note that there are advance fares listed. This is an attractive option, but I will only be certain what train I'm getting home once I actually leave...
