Huntingdon incident (01/11/2025) - hypothetical questions regarding alternative possible actions

It would likely be carnage. While I'm sure some people would help others down, another consideration would be that some people would almost certainly be trying to take their bags down onto the line too.

    Donald Trump and rail

People should be driving coal powered trucks with confederate flags.

Huntingdon incident (01/11/2025) - hypothetical questions regarding alternative possible actions

I think there are clear reasons when evacuating a train might be necessary, such as when the train itself is the risk (e.g. it's on fire). I just don't think it applies for an incident like this.

Huntingdon incident (01/11/2025) - hypothetical questions regarding alternative possible actions

Jumping from a train in the dark, possibly in panic, and running around - again in panic - does not seem like a safe plan in any scenario. Then, you allow the offenders to potentially flee (or inflict more harm) and cause a manhunt that potentially means they're never found and can repeat their...

    Major Incident at Huntingdon (01/11/2025)

There are people with their trousers around their ankles getting excited to hear what they want to hear, and when info isn't available within 15 seconds they call it a cover up and it being obvious who the offenders were. The victims are ammunition for their views and social media clout...

    Major Incident at Huntingdon (01/11/2025)

Not considered a terror incident and two UK nationals, although of course some people will still want to know the names and ethnicity in order to decide how much further interest they have in this story. I can imagine many X posts being deleted as I speak. Edit; I see they've now had their...

    Major Incident at Huntingdon (01/11/2025)

X is full of people blaming Labour and the London Mayor (well the train goes to London..) and even calling on Trump to impose sanctions on us etc. The narrative is set whatever the reality actually is.

Complexity isn't the Issue with Rail Fares...

Same at Sports Direct where you often get two items for a big discount, but they often won't have two items of your chosen size. You therefore have to miss out on the offer if you want the item now. Staff will always tell you that you should order online to secure the deals, which is likely why...

Complexity isn't the Issue with Rail Fares...

Obviously this thread is about rail fares and complexity, but I'm going to comment on Boots and say that, while obviously great you can get such discounts, I don't like all the hoops you need to jump through to save money - and still get to leave the store wondering if you paid the lowest price...

Is Windermere and Ambleside and Rydal Water Circular (Via the Coffin Route) possible in a day using Northern from Liverpool?

I just checked for 3 nights in late November and they want nearly £500 (more if you want some flexibility and a chance to alter your plans or cancel!). That had some of the cheaper nights on their calendar! Are that many people still wanting rooms in November? I guess you can still do some nice...

    Eleanor LNER Doll

On platforms like YouTube and other social media, it's possible to manage your campaigns with extremely high precision - and also control when ads show. This means that if there's a weekend of predicted nice weather, and no engineering work, LNER could target certain people (including certain...

UK switching to electric vehicles discussion

I did chuckle when I saw that and thought what a clever marketing stunt that is to get publicity. Perhaps they should also offer a diesel-scented hand wash to customers who want that 'just filled up' smell.

    Eleanor LNER Doll

All companies need to spend money on marketing. Even small businesses that may not spend money on advertising and go for 'word of mouth' still need to invest in good customer support if they want to remain in business. Almost no business can spend absolutely nothing and just rely on people...

    Eleanor LNER Doll

Three had a male puppet (called Jackson). Maybe Eleanor is his sister or wife? He wasn't very popular either, given Three introduced him as someone campaigning to 'make things right' at the same time Three was in the process of introducing measures to offer a worse service to its customers...

Could Welwyn North be closed to speed up journeys over the Digswell viaduct?

The area already has a Hot Fuzz 'For the Greater Good (the greater good)' feeling to it. It's always been an odd station. Clearly great for the affluent people who live nearby who can walk to the station, and with large car parking facilities for those further away (as I've said before, many...

Experiences of service recovery (or lack of) on GTR Great Northern

Balancing move to get stock around ahead of or because of engineering work? I noticed a 12 car down to 4 cars earlier in the week. Now I bet that was very cosy!

Could Welwyn North be closed to speed up journeys over the Digswell viaduct?

Just take over the A1(M) Welwyn North is much like Knebworth, being very busy London bound in the morning peak and vice versa in the evening peak. For the rest of the day and evening, it's pretty dead. You then have it a common split ticketing station and a very common short ticketing station...

Great Northern - Northern City Line to TFL?

Many stations are removing maps, presumably because they're expensive to keep updating and replacing as they fade etc. Much like engineering posters getting less detailed and including a QR code for more info, I think more and more people will be using online journey planners which are going to...

    Class 377 light refresh

I don't know if they have ambient light sensors to adjust the backlight (I don't think they do) but I don't see them as being particularly bright. I do tend to sit with my back to them. They do show useful information relating to big engineering works, QR codes for various information, along...

Proposed new Channel Tunnel services discussion

At first glance my thoughts were this is Eurostar claiming they can't give up any space at Temple Mills because they are going to buy all these new trains and run services to all those new destinations other companies are proposing to do! If this leads to the competitors being unable to muscle...
