The Labour Party under Andy Burnham

GB News is in hot water with Ofcom* over a 'feature' that looked at the names of offenders in different areas to conclude that it's mostly foreigners committing crimes. Clearly if you're name is Mohammed, you absolutely cannot be British in their eyes. * Ofcom will likely do very little, and GB...

Could some Peterborough to Horsham services call additionally at Welwyn Garden City?

That's how it used to be, although it does require the event organisers to liaise with the train companies, TfL (buses) and so on to get enhanced services. There's a chance that some events may not attract the extra services, leading to overcrowding and potential hazards on the platforms. So, a...

    Thoughts on the Trump presidency

Carbon capture is for the most part a scam, a way for polluting companies to continue polluting by pretending they're doing something. There may be some valid use cases, but I'm not convinced. I doubt many people that see climate change as an issue are behind the concept.

    Thoughts on the Trump presidency

By then, everyone will have relocated to the Trump Ballroom that he's going to claim is his because the taxpayer didn't fund it.

Could some Peterborough to Horsham services call additionally at Welwyn Garden City?

Alexandra Palace provides a logical place to change from mainline to loop services, without going all the way to Finsbury Park and back. There are also more and more big events taking place that require large capacity trains to get people home. I am really not sure about New Barnet, especially...

Passengers boarding the wrong aeroplane and ending up in the wrong destination.

Very late reply, but TikTok is full of people doing far worse things (often highly illegal and immoral) for clout. I haven't looked at the links or read any more about what happened, but people are very creative and with some help from others to make something viral, it can lead to a massive...

The Labour Party under Andy Burnham

Well, quite. If you close more and more A&Es so people have further to go to a hospital with a life-threatening condition, and end up sat outside in a queue, there's a good chance a number will be DOA. It's a bit like the sick people who were caught during Covid suggesting that a virus that...

The Labour Party under Andy Burnham

And yet the humble care worker receives very little pay for what is very hard work. These are the sorts of thing Labour could and should be trying to fix, along with a multitude of other issues that get talked about on numerous forums (explaining just how bad the exploitation is by big...

    Uno Bus

Uno appears to be diverting the 614 to avoid the roadworks but there are still delays. As said above, the roads just aren't designed to allow buses to move freely - from traffic hotspots to narrow lanes from bad parking (limited to no parking enforcement).

    Thoughts on the Trump presidency

Yes, like opening an investigation that means the documents can't be released. He can then leak names and imply it's only Democrats on the list. A strategy that I don't think is found to work. People are moving on from Trump and I'm sure the Heritage Foundation no longer consider him useful...

    Uno Bus

Uno still has many buses with audio only announcements, with broken (flickering) displays or displays switched off entirely. I was also on a bus with no hardware, but I think it was a 2008 vehicle so maybe it is exempt until next year. For the last two days the service has been pretty woeful...

Project Oval: TfL win DfT contract to expand contactless system to 233 rail stations by May 2024, Railcards coming to contactless payment cards

Hopefully they'll progress on the idea to allow you to apply a railcard to a particular card, then the discount will be applied automatically. Likewise, they really need to develop a way to charge child fares too, using the same principle.

Received a witness statement receipt on Thameslink today

They cannot issue a penalty fare for this. You technically had a valid ticket once you bought it in front of them, so would win an appeal. The ONLY option and the option that would be chosen for everyone is the MG11 process with a view to prosecution. Colour and gender played no role here.

    Channel Tunnel 2

I expect there will be new battery chemistries by then that solve that issue. Personally, it seems silly to waste power to propel each individual vehicle when we have a train that can carry lots of cars in one go - and, who knows, potentially provide power to charge while in motion. In other...

Received a witness statement receipt on Thameslink today

Plus, deleting your account does NOT delete the data even if you can't access it personally. GTR and others can and do request the deleted data which will be kept to allow for things like investigating a crime, as well as for other legal reasons (like accounting). Have you short fared before...

UK switching to electric vehicles discussion

EVs have less things to go wrong, so it's quite likely many cars will be 'safe bets' if purchased when 5+ years old. Not only that but you can't really thrash an EV like an ICE car, so it's less likely you'll get a car that someone has abused (and potentially damaged through lack of TLC). Of...

Elon Musk - the world's "greatest" spiv?

They can't drive on UK roads. There is a well known influencer/YouTuber that imported one and flouts the law but they can't be on our roads because they're deadly to everyone else.

    Azuma seating

It's a lot easier to complain now and you can do it in public. Now if you mean the number of complaints sent to a train operator then that's one thing, but I strongly suspect most people complain on social media and never complain directly.
