4O05, 07:15 Birch Coppice Freightliner to Southampton M.C.T derailed at Eastleigh (28/01)

Signalling fault according to SWR twitter. Never rains....

    Peterborough - East Croydon

If you don't mind changing at KX to StP on the way down, then maybe worth looking at advance fares from Peterborough to E Croydon via LNER (there are some tomorrow for 16.65 still) - though you don't get to travel round London on that ticket if you are going to do so on a Fri evening. Maybe...

Trivia: most circuitous route between 2 stations on same line

Was thinking Blackfriars to Farringdon via the Circle line - it's almost exactly 1km as the crow flies, no idea how far via the Circle Line (longer via S Ken obviously, but you can't do that without changing these days at Edgware Rd). EDIT: 5.47km via Aldgate

    TPE Confirmation email glitch

FWIW, Yahoo is as bad if not worse than BT (they were one and the same a few years back)!

    TPE Confirmation email glitch

BT email is not fit for purpose (from my server-side experience of sending mail from a server I administer to BT accounts). The solution is to use another email provider...

Not happy with staff on Northern

And the customer charter makes no mention of finding a conductor! All it says is (https://d2cf7kiw5xizhy.cloudfront.net/images/policy/2019-01/Northern_Customer_Promise.pdf):

    Train from Warwick -> London

Splitting at Bicester N is I think the best from the looks - Off peak Warwick P to Bicester N is valid to leave after 0843, and no restrictions on return from Marylebone; Off peak return Bicester to Marylebone is valid to arrive after 1000, no evening restrictions. Needs to stop at Bicester N -...

    Chichester to Oxford permitted routes

I don't know what "beyond" means here either in the easement - it's not really "beyond" in that direction! But, it's the only easement that comes up in the routing point calculator, and presume that must be the reason, as it fails the fares check via Ford, there's no direct train that way, and...

    Oxford to Havant routing

Isn't this to do with the easement as below? So travelling Didcot>Ford is on map XB, which has route through Didcot, Reading, Guildford, Gatwick, Three Bridges, Horsham etc. I presume this overrides the fare check which would otherwise appear to prevent using Ford as a routing point for Emsworth?

Level crossing incident near Norwich new RAIB investigation

I am sure that I've experienced barriers rising before with no train, and at full barrier CCTV monitored crossings (Whyteleafe for sure, albeit many years back). But, at what point shouldn't a car driver trust crossing signals? Most drivers have no idea of the differences between types of level...

Off-peak ticket validity Heyford to Paddington

I'm presuming that you need the flexibility of a non-advance fare (possibly for the evening only?) - but if you *can* pin down trains, then you could go for advances - there are several reasonable options even for next week going from Kings Sutton to Marylebone (KGS is not far from you in...

Chiltern: Deliberately misinforming passengers about the route.

They wouldn't even get that - 30 min minimum for compensation on Chiltern, and there are two services afterwards that arrive within 30min of the scheduled time for the 1750. (Unless subsequent services are delayed of course...)

"London Euston to Weybridge via Surbiton" but wanted ticket to include the tube

I've been caught by this before going from Liverpool St to Oxford (I have a feeling about 2007?). Not entirely sure if this would even have a legitimate route on National Rail only routes these days, let alone then. Either way, not a journey I'd fancy compared to the Circle Line to Paddington...

    More GWR data errors

It appears that though a lot of GWR off peak tickets are restricted in some way in the evening, but, errors with the GWR booking engine aside, there are lots of off-peaks down the Thames Valley routes that have no evening restrictions that apply to GWR trains from Paddington, even fares that are...

Forbidden from using power socket in station waiting room

Though, section 13 of said act (http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1968/60/section/13) which states: Whether this counts as "dishonestly" using the electricity is another argument (see section 2!), though on the whole scheme of things, compared to the industrial scale abstraction by...

Biggest Platform Gap in the country?

Many years ago landed up having to get a slam door service from (at least what is now) Selhurst Platform 3 (Down Fast, was there a Sunday service to E Grinstead from there?) - I seem to remember the step up and across to the train seemed enormous! Mostly the "up" part of the step, but I felt...

Departure Screens at Paddington showing wrong info about ticket validity

As mentioned above, the gate line staff at Paddington are not much better - My wife's Oxford to Cambridge SVR return portion got rejected there one evening peak. Gate line staff took a look and refused entry as it was "an off peak ticket". Told her by phone to go back, try another staff member...
