    Domestic (& continental) ferries

Agree that our little ferries are a much neglected subject. Is there a comprehensive list of these crossings on the web, or perhaps we could start one here with a sticky? A highlight of old trips to see a mate in Fawley was crossing the Solent aboard Hotspur IV, probably the most rateable...

How about a "no eating" coach?

The only thing I don't dare buy to eat on a train is egg and bacon sandwiches. I love em, but oh that smell when you open up the pack!!!

    Hiking between stations

Whitby to Scarborough is a lovely walk, although I have never done it all in one day, the pubs at Robin Hoods bay always prove too tempting! Two easy routes exist, one along the old railway alignment and the prettier one along the cliffs. Utterly beautiful walking from Saltburn to Whitby too...

Can you think of any innovative examples of entertainment provided on trains?

Well before our time I suspect, but didn't the LNER try cinema cars on their trains? Possibly out of our remit here, but I think some Austrian trains have them today, as well as dedicated play areas for kids?

    Bavaria queries

I've had a look at the up to date Bavarian diagrams on another group, they look broadly similar apart from some of the Oberstdorf turns disappearing, those few that remain look to be IC from Ulm. I last visited in 2011, the Kempten regional turns were all still silberling stock, Muhldorf DD...

I bet the loco drivers used to buffer up to that ICBM consist very very VERY slowly ;-)

Hi, further to my earlier post regarding Buchloe, found this whilst browsing to give you an idea what to expect. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVi4wzaj6io Diesel Hydraulic heaven :-)

    Bavaria queries

Done this run a couple of times, once direct and once changing at Buchloe (its cross platform). Weekend in high summer, i'd guess that the trains were about 80% loaded. The direct train was busier than using the connection, perhaps most of the tourists from Munich for the castle were...

    Cardiff reccomendations

Visited Cardiff and the valleys about 2 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. For excellent beers i'd recommend The Cricketers on Cathedral road-it's a longish walk but you can get a bus almost to the door and the Evan Evans ale is certainly worth the trip- the food looked nice too. Out of...

    talking to bus drivers: discussion

Anybody else had the opposite problem- you sit down to enjoy a peaceful daydreamy ride through the countryside and the driver (undoubtedly bored out of his head after hours of unresponsive or non existent punters) bends your ear for the whole journey! Has happened to me many times over the...

Never mind the Borismaster, we could have got....

....this courtesy of the creative folk of Slovakia http://www.webnoviny.sk/fotogaleria/novy-doubledecker-v-nitre/591888-fotografia.html Looks new (ok ok rebuilt), but seems to sport a low floor, rear staircase, rear entrance with front doorway and a less than subtle hint of Douglas Scott's...

    Loud music on trains [RANT]

As an aside to the OP- I'm guessing the annoying music players were female? If so their comments make a little bit more sense.... They were just jealous :-)

    Loud music on trains [RANT]

For me what ruins most of my uk and some euro public transport journeys is selfish noise pollution. The tinny blast from mobile phones, sibilant beats from cheap headphones ( apple are a particular culprit here), loud mouthed people ( these range from pathetic annoying chavs in 2nd class to...

Highest bus station in the UK

Consett at 272m might be a contender? It's always feels cold up there......

Which bus would you most like to see fleets of replica builds go into service?

Same here, preferably with a Gardner engine. I might allow some modifications though, rattle free windows and heaters that actually keep you warm being two that spring to mind :-)
