Whitby to Scarborough is a lovely walk, although I have never done it all in one day, the pubs at Robin Hoods bay always prove too tempting! Two easy routes exist, one along the old railway alignment and the prettier one along the cliffs.

Utterly beautiful walking from Saltburn to Whitby too, again its a canny stretch in a day but the views are tremendous.

Both are part of the Cleveland way and are well waymarked.
They are perfect for beginners or experts, north of Ravenscar offering plenty of places to give up and continue by regular service bus if your feet start bleeding!

A much shorter, but perhaps interesting urban walk is to get off the TW metro at Jarrow then walk under the River Tyne to Howden using the purpose built pedestrian tunnel.
