    Acceleration rates of U.K. MUs

It looks like an emergency stop took place or maybe they are advertising maximum braking capability

    Acceleration rates of U.K. MUs

London Underground braking on open air sections under ATO seems to be around 5%G. A Javelin driver friend tells me they are advised to stay well within maximum braking capacity. He claims to use no more than 50% braking capacity as a rule while he acknowledges other drivers may use more braking...

London-York times before and after HS2

The 800's will potentially offer faster journeys - at least a saving of apps 1 minute on sections where the trains can run in electric mode at 125mph. On sections with lower speed limits, the difference may only be an advantage of 30 seconds or so per station to station stop. But all that...

    Greater Anglia Rolling Stock Updates

It will be interesting to see how punctual the Norwich in 90 service will be. I was checking Realtime Trains reported timings for the fabled Edinburgh to London in 4 hr service recently, and they reveal it rarely achieves its 4hr timing - usually at least 5 to 10 mins late each day.

    Acceleration rates of U.K. MUs

Using a claimed 'acceleration rate is misleading, as no train maintains a fixed acceleration rate across the speed range. Probably the class 91's seem to have the most linear speed vs time graph up to 100mph compared to other stock. And two trains that appear to accelerate in the same time to a...

    Acceleration rates of U.K. MUs

Wow the 331s look like they will be very fast indeed 0 to 100mph in between 80 and 90 seconds!!

    Acceleration rates of U.K. MUs

The figures in Rail Express are usually the best available in dry conditions and based on several runs. Obviously we try to use figures taken on level track. And as such they provide a realistic comparison between the various trains. The same way 0 to 60mph figures for cars can vary from one car...

How are preparations for Norwich in 90 gearing up? Have they managed to marshall together a loco and rake of coaches for it yet?

The CBTC section commences at the East end of the Stratford electric line platforms. Operationally there has to be a reason connected with that.

    LNER Azuma (Class 800/801)

I'm not convinced the Azuma's are any more comfortable! Having recently spent a few days sampling LNER Mk3 and MK4 coaches, i can say with some certainty that both environments are much nicer places to sit for several hours - comparing with GWR 800 and 802 stock. But to put things into...
