    Guess the Station...

Wait, is this Durham? There is a road bridge at the north end of the station, 3 tracks...

    Guess the Station...

It looks like a northern station presumably in area of red sandstone, so we are talking most likely cumbria coast north of st bees, some of the newcastle carlisle line, or possibly in cheshire somewhere

Should we be building new railways?

The routes only have a certain amount of money a year to upkeep earthworks and these major repair schemes can blow multiyear planning out of the water. And whatever your utopia may think otherwise there will come a point in the next 10, 20 or 30 years that the decision will have to be made when...

Should we be building new railways?

They are, but there is a finite pot of money, and every pointless reinstatement survey on a no hope line reopening takes a little bit from the pot. Some areas though are far too big issues to fix. The network can only sustain a certain number of Eden Brows style sized failures. If you had...

Should we be building new railways?

Let me clarify when i say the climate change impact on the railway. I dont mean decarbonisation. I mean there are large areas of the network at risk due to the wetter climate in winter and drier summers. Earthworks are at major risk from increased water and the carnarge to timetables from the...

Should we be building new railways?

Electrify and fix what we already have before building new routes. Climate change is going to force our hand on much of what we are doing

Speculation- New TPE routes or extensions?

Blackpool to Scarboro has been mentioned on this thread and it would be a terrible idea. The service regularly picks up delays on route so having the reliability to terminate it at York in P7 rather than go through platform 3/5 at York where its conflicting with the majority of LNER services...

    Eleanor LNER Doll

The average person booking a train ticket in the Uk doesnt care about Sir Nigel Stanier or William Gresley. They dont care about the trains that ran 100 or 50 years ago. Will Eleanor convince people to get the train rather than drive? I dont know, but it is a simple mascot, with a close...

WCML infrastructure is a shambles: could resilence improve? (and could the UK learn from Switzerland?)

In Japan, especially Tokyo, the majority of the lines run self contained entirely so there is very limited conflicts. Yes they do run a mix of services fasts, semi fasts, locals etc.. when you get further away from the city centres, but they pick up delays just as badly as services over here...

    Any A340-600s still in use?

probably the -300 as they only had 3 -600s, but thats only a guess. They had -300s up to 2017, but -600s only between 2002-2009

    Any A340-600s still in use?

i would have loved to use a-600, using the a340-300 on a transpacific had the longest take off roll ever using its hair dryer engines

Darlington: use of the trainshed after the improvements

I feel like stations without a roof or trainshed can never feel warm in winter, whereas a roof lulls you into a false sense of security at Darlo.

Darlington: use of the trainshed after the improvements

I agree with the sentiment that Darlington station is the coldest on the ECML

    *International* Guess The Station

It irritates me to no end that the catenary wire in that photo follows exactly the angle of the mountain

ITs giving me Polish vibes (from playing Geoguessr), but alas my knowledge of Polish places and stations is nearly non existent
