WMT Digital Fraud Team asking me to incriminate myself after I appealed a fine successfully? Advice please.

We've got a thread about some of the rogue behaviour from WMT: https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/train-companies-misrepresenting-railway-regulations.287206/ To summarise, purchasing tickets is not illegal but using a ticket illegally is a criminal offence. To secure a conviction in court...

    Train companies misrepresenting railway regulations

Absolutely. For example, we regularly see emails from WMT requesting evidence of railcards going back years. There is absolutely no requirement for a railcard to be kept agter it has expired yet the way these emails are written you would think otherwise.

Wearing a "railway uniform" to fare evade ?

A few years back I was travelling between Inverness and Kyle of Localsh. Guard comes round to check tickets and I showed my ticket which was in my ticket wallet along with my Hatton to Lapworth Annual Gold Card. I'm sure the guard thought it was a staff Gold Status Pass!

London - Milton Keynes daily commute

It’s not my area of expertise, but I do know it a bit complicated!

    Train companies misrepresenting railway regulations

This is exactly what I suspect is happening. Everything will be fine until someone like @KirkstallOne comes along with a tenacious approach and it all comes crashing down. Well then end up with tens of thousands of cases that have to be undone, money refunded etc etc but the time this comes...

    Southeastern Notice of Possible Prosecution

If you have engaged a solicitor then you should follow their advice. That is what you are paying them (a lot of money) to do.

London - Milton Keynes daily commute

I was looking at the map on the TfL website, linked above, specifically the key that shows validity on ‘NR lines’ between Euston and Harrow & Wealdstone only. Validity is shown to Watford Junction but only on London Overground. I’m not sure if this is the exact position, or a simplified...

London - Milton Keynes daily commute

Happy to be corrected but I’m not sure the 60+ Oyster card is valid beyond Harrow & Wealdstone on London Northwestern.

    Train companies misrepresenting railway regulations

I’m all for effective deterrent but the threats in the emails sent are substantially incorrect.

    Train companies misrepresenting railway regulations

Absolutely this! I'm all for using techniques in the back office to assist in cracking down on fare evasion, but purchasing tickets is not illegal. To secure a conviction WMT has to prove that the tickets have been used illegally and these data trawls do not do this.

    West midlands penalty fare

Once the Penalty Fare has been paid that is the end of the matter for the incident where you were caught. Nothing will show up on a DBS check because of a Penalty Fare (technically you've been sold a fare (albeit at a higher price than normal), a court conviction is what's needed to impact...

GA Travel Irregularity and short ticketing

Just to be clear, based on what we've been told Greater Anglia are highly unlikely to be able to secure a conviction but they will continue to write further threatening letters/emails for the forseeable future threatening prosecution, police involvement, fraud etc.

    Train companies misrepresenting railway regulations

I do not condone fare evasion but I am becoming concerned at WMTs behaviour. I wonder how many of these emails they send out, and how many people simply pay up. It is of course likely that many of the people receiving these emails have been involved in fare evasion and many will argue that...

    Out of court settlement

Welcome to the forum! Just to clarify a few things here. Based on your location I assume you're dealing with Govia Thameslink Railway. They are normally one of the more pragmatic train companies to deal with when it comes to this sort of thing as long as you co-operate with their...

A new way for fares regulation in a nationalised railway?

Broadly speaking that's what's happened. Increases in regulated fares have been linked to RPI, sometimes RPI+1%, sometimes RPI-1% etc. While it's not perfect, I dread to think how much fares would have increased had regulationnot have been in place.

    WMT - fraud investigation

Just to be aware that ignoring the email will see further follow-up emails threatening police involvement, prosecution, fraud etc. Do let us know if you receive further contact.

GTR Witness Statement -No Letter Received Yet, Unsure What to Do Next, please help!

Unless GTR mention other occasions then there’s no need for you to mention them. Fundamentally you don’t need to incriminate yourself. Be aware that it is possible that GTR might contact you about the other journeys at some point in the future.

GTR Witness Statement -No Letter Received Yet, Unsure What to Do Next, please help!

Your letter is ok but take the bit out about your future employment prospects. GTR won't care about that and why should someone be treated diufferently if their future emloyment prospects don't matter? I expect GTR will offer you a settlement.

    Misuse of free pass!! Help!!

Mod note - I've split discussion about the merits of not disclosing income to the court into a separate thread: https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/discussion-on-not-disclosing-income-to-a-court.287118/
