Lost Property - system not fit for purpose

So EMR contact out lost property to the Excess Baggage company at St Pancras. Excess Baggage company at St Pancras is open 7-days a week from 07:00 until 23:00 but they only deal with lost property on weekdays. This seems ridiculous.

Could some Peterborough to Horsham services call additionally at Welwyn Garden City?

Leave the 07:53 non-stop alone! Seriously, it probably only works because of the overtaking opportunities, the non-stop can overtake the Thameslink train at WGC which means they can essentially swap paths. This won't work if you make the 07:53 the train that calls at WGC. As I said upthread...

Will First Class travel shrink more in the future?

Thameslink has it in the front compartment. Before someone corrects me, there are some TL services (eg Sutton loop) where it is declassified in the front.

Could some Peterborough to Horsham services call additionally at Welwyn Garden City?

Currently the 07:47 from Stevenage is full and standing upon arrival at Stevenage. It's the same with the 08:17. You've then got to add the Stevenage passengers, then the Knebworth ones and then the WGC ones so this train will be very full. A packed 12-car train calling at an 8-car platform...

Could some Peterborough to Horsham services call additionally at Welwyn Garden City?

That's a very good question. I suspect GTR has a genuine desire to offer faster services from WGC in the peak, and they've probably calculated that this could also balance loadings across trains as well. The problem is while the timetable probably works in theory on paper or in a computer...

Could some Peterborough to Horsham services call additionally at Welwyn Garden City?

I'm no expert on timetabling but it seems to me that it would be a huge performance risk getting the Peterborough to Horsham trains to call at Welwyn Garden City. The East Coast mainline is a very busy railway, I believe it operates at capacity for much of the day which is a train every 3...

Making a will, should I use a will writer or a solicitor?

Another vote to use a solicitor. I sorted my will a couple of years ago. I also sorted a power of attorney out as well, simply because if I was to become incapacitated my attorney could step in and make decisions on my behalf.

Help at a station for a child whose phone is broken

In reality, I wonder how many members of staff would know about SILK? I suspect in reality it would be easier for the parent to buy a ticket, select ToD, and the child collect it at the ticket machine. Payment cards aren’t required to collect a ToD these days (except for LNER)

Yes, a procedure exists for this.

    GTR awaiting notification?

Most train companies have some big backlogs of cases at the moment so letters are often taking longer than usual to be sent.

Fare dodging at Reading - appeal advice

While you are entitled to appeal, you need to be very careful here. As a member of staff was travelling with you do you really want to draw attention to the case? Drawing attention to the case could result in the member of staff being investigated which could have all sorts of consequences...

Delay repay involves multiple operators keep rejecting

The OP tells us in thej opening post: So it is clear to me that the journey was from Taunton to Norwich. Any advice we give about claiming delay repay should therefore reflect the fact that the journey was from Taunton to Norwich. If we suggest 'inventing' break of journey to aid a delay...

Absolute fastest way to get from the Lyric Theatre in Hammersmith to Euston Station?

It was changed to 'Overground' several years back and a few weeks ago it was changed again to 'Lioness Line'. Of course, the majority of trains from platforms 8-11 are not Lioness Line.

Fares Increases From 7th September 2025

Here's a copy of a post I wrote in 2019 about the impact of contactless at Brookmans Park. https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/potters-bar-and-brookmans-park-fare-observations.190475/post-4181448

Fares Increases From 7th September 2025

The PAYG contactless system across the southeast only supports two fares levels - peak and off-peak. This has been the case since Oyster PAYG started more than 20 years ago. I’ll greatly mourn the loss of these fares, if they do end up going, but when people constantly say rail fares are too...
