Stations with lifts but not to all platforms

At Carlisle the lifts are to a separate subway, rather than the bridge.

    Harz Mountain Railway

Very odd that we seem to be seeing different things in the same link. This is what I see below: Oh well... either way, still glad I was able to do the full line behind steam last year!

    XC Voyager Refurbishment

I've found one big benefit of the big, ex-shop, luggage area is that it's the only place you can stow a folding mobility scooter for those mobility-impaired passengers who need to use one. The normal luggage racks are simply inadequate for this, and XC won't let you book a wheelchair space for...

Stations with lifts but not to all platforms

Gerrards Cross is a bit of an odd one. Platforms are on the ground level, but the main entrance is at first floor level (at same height as the footbridge). There's a lift from Platform 1 (Northbound) to the footbridge, but not Platform 2 (Southbound) where the entrance is. Platform 2 does still...

    Harz Mountain Railway

Basically: C = Mon-Sat it's a bus, Sunday is steam train. D = Mon-Sat it's a train, Sunday is a bus. Would be a lot simpler if they just published separate timetables for Mon-Sat and Sun. The Harz timetables aren't the easiest to parse at the best of times.

    Harz Mountain Railway

Are you sure? These trains are marked as D in the timetable: https://www.hsb-wr.de/out/pictures/ddmedia/Sommerfahrplan_Selketalbahn_2026.pdf The note for D states: Zug verkehrt sonntags als Schienenersatzverkehr Translating as "The train runs on Sundays as a rail replacement service." All...

    Harz Mountain Railway

For anyone travelling on the Harz network this summer, it's worth noting some significant changes to the timetables. https://www.hsb-wr.de/Fahrplan-Tarife/Fahrplaene/Sommerfahrplan-2026/ From my understanding: - No trains at all between Ilfeld and Eisfelder Talmühle due to viaduct repairs, so...

Expansion of Disabled Persons Railcard eligibility

There would definitely be some merit in standardising the discounts for disabled people travelling with essential companions: Someone who is visually impaired or uses a wheelchair can get a 50% discount for both themselves and a companion, without a railcard, on Anytime tickets only. They can't...

    Chiltern MK3 PRR-MYB diagrams?

Will be interesting to see if there's any takeup of First Class on these, the £20 each way upgrade is reasonable from Birmingham, less so from Princes Risborough and south thereof! Hopefully common sense will prevail and they'll either be declassified, or a reduced upgrade price offered.

Gatelines with only one Wide Access Gate

As a passenger, I find some wide gates can be temperamental when in bidirectional mode. Sometimes it starts off with a green arrow, but if you stand in the wrong place while getting the ticket ready, it seems to think that someone's coming the other way and reverts to 'no entry'. I don't know...

    Linking adjacent stations

A direct Baker Street to Marylebone connection could offer some benefits, especially if it could be combined with a scheme that provides step-free access to all platforms at Baker Street. At present, if you arrive at Marylebone and can't use steps, your only option is the bus! However, any...

    Longest scheduled heritage service

There is also the issue that neither line has the ability to turn a loco, so at least some of the trip has to be done with a diesel loco hauling the train in reverse. The MHR-Bluebell trip was diesel hauled from Kingscote to South Croydon, with the train reversing there and then steam-hauled via...

    Chiltern Mk5 implementation - speculation

Didn't get a chance to see, I spotted a vacant seat when I boarded at Banbury and grabbed it!

    Chiltern Mk5 implementation - speculation

Going back to Mk5s, my first trip on one was last Monday. The first off-peak train to London and it was full & standing from Bicester North. It's still better than the 3 car 168 that often used to work this diagram, but it does feel like this is only providing the bare minimum capacity...

    Longest scheduled heritage service

There have certainly been Steam Dreams trips from the Mid Hants Railway to the Bluebell Railway. The one I travelled on started from Alresford on the MHR, but terminated at Kingscote on the Bluebell with passengers transferring to a Bluebell train for the run to Sheffield Park. I think there...

    Longest scheduled heritage service

The Romney Hythe & Dymchurch Railway has run trains non-stop Hythe to Hythe via Dungeness loop. Wiki reckons that's 13.5 miles each way, so 27 miles in total.

SETG announces the preservation of 455871

What's the situation now egarding 455s through Aldershot Tunnel? I believe there was some sort of clearance restriction, though they obviously managed to get the similar 150 to Alton by rail. I agree that it's excellent to see such a competent group as the SETG, with a track record of delivery...

Proposals to remove 15-minute Delay Repay

Indeed, setting the thresholds at say 25 mins and 55 mins rather than 15min, 30min and 60mins would reduce the delay repay claims for people doing short trips on turn up and go services, but would still genuinely compensate those who suffer a severe delay or cancellation on an hourly or...

60 minute journeys from New Street?

As a Banbury resident whose journey to New St is currently just under 60 mins, I'd happily accept a few minutes longer on the journey time if there was a regular reliable 2tph service, of at least 8 coaches, and last trains late enough that I could go to an evening event in Birmingham any day of...
